Multiscale structure of sheet nacre.
Marthe Rousseau,Evelyne Lopez,Philippe Stempflé,Philippe Stempflé,Marcel Brendlé,Loïc Franke,Alain Guette,Roger Naslain,Xavier Bourrat +8 more
TL;DR: This work was conducted on Pinctada maxima nacre in order to understand its multiscale ordering and the role of the organic matrix in its structure and proposed that each tablet results from the coherent aggregation of nanograins keeping strictly the same crystallographic orientation thanks to a hetero-epitaxy mechanism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Boron-bearing species in ceramic matrix composites for long-term aerospace applications
TL;DR: In this article, a self-healing multilayered matrix is designed and used in a model composite, which combines B-doped pyrocarbon mechanical fuse layers and B 4 C and SiC layers forming B 2 O 3 -based fluid healing phases when exposed to an oxidizing atmosphere.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structure/oxidation behavior relationship in the carbonaceous constituents of 2D-C/PyC/SiC composites
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used TGA and TEM to assess which carbonaceous constituent exhibits the highest reactivity with oxygen in the composites and the relationship between the behavior of the materials in oxygen and their nano/microtexture.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantitative structural and textural assessment of laminar pyrocarbons through Raman spectroscopy, electron diffraction and few other techniques
TL;DR: In this paper, the optical properties of pyrocarbons, i.e., the extinction angle, the optical phase shift and the ordinary and extraordinary reflectance, have been accurately determined at 550nm by means of the extinction curves method.
Journal ArticleDOI
LPCVD and characterization of boron-containing pyrocarbon materials
TL;DR: In this article, a small amount of boron (e.g. 8 at.%) highly enhances the structural anisotropy of pyrocarbon, as evidenced by optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy.
