Phthalates impact human health: Epidemiological evidences and plausible mechanism of action.

Polymeric materials, in particular PVC, can find various industrial utilizations thanks to the use of plasticizers added during their processing. The most famous applications include wires and cables, coatings, flooring, paintings, packaging… After some generalities concerning plasticization theories and the description of plasticized petro- and bio-based polymers, this review details the well-known different petro-based plasticizers and more particularly phthalates which represent the most important category of PVC plasticizers. Owing to migration problems, impact on the human health and the environment, alternative candidates have been developed by researchers. Renewable resources and their wastes offer a large platform for the design of bio-based plasticizers using polysaccharidic or lipidic structures. In an in-depth analysis, the bio-based plasticizer structures, their groups and substituents (ester groups, alkyl chains, aromatic rings…) are gathered and examined in order to be able to predict their plasticizing efficiency and design new molecular and macromolecular plasticizers from natural resources. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Petro‐based and bio‐based plasticizers: Chemical structures to plasticizing properties

Inhibition of α-glucosidase activity may suppress postprandial hyperglycemia. The inhibition kinetic analysis showed that apigenin reversibly inhibited α-glucosidase activity with an IC50 value of (10.5 ± 0.05) × 10–6 mol L–1, and the inhibition was in a noncompetitive manner through a monophasic kinetic process. The fluorescence quenching and conformational changes determined by fluorescence and circular dichroism were due to the formation of an α-glucosidase–apigenin complex, and the binding was mainly driven by hydrophobic interactions and hydrogen bonding. The molecular simulation showed that apigenin bound to a site close to the active site of α-glucosidase, which may induce the channel closure to prevent the access of substrate, eventually leading to the inhibition of α-glucosidase. Inhibitory Mechanism of Apigenin on α-Glucosidase and Synergy Analysis of Flavonoids.

Eperisone hydrochloride (EH) is widely used as a muscle relaxant for patients with muscular contracture, low back pain, or spasticity. Human serum albumin (HSA) is a highly soluble negatively charged, endogenous and abundant plasma protein ascribed with the ligand binding and transport properties. The current study was undertaken to explore the interaction between EH and the serum transport protein, HSA. Study of the interaction between HSA and EH was carried by UV−vis, fluorescence quenching, circular dichroism (CD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Forster’s resonance energy transfer, isothermal titration calorimetry and differential scanning calorimetry. Tryptophan fluorescence intensity of HSA was strongly quenched by EH.
