Journal ArticleDOI

Marek's disease virus-encoded vIL-8 gene is involved in early cytolytic infection but dispensable for establishment of latency.

TL;DR: In vitro and in vivo studies revealed that the DKR motif is as competent as ELR in pathogenesis of Marek's disease virus, and showed that vIL-8 gene is dispensable for virus replication in cell culture.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Marek's Disease Virus vIL-8 Deletion Mutant Has Attenuated Virulence and Confers Protection Against Challenge with a Very Virulent Plus Strain

TL;DR: It is shown that there is a significant difference in the reduction of B cells and activation of T cells in the spleen cells of chickens inoculated with parental rMd5 and vIL-8 deletion mutant virus, indicating that v IL-8 is involved in the early phase of pathogenesis, presumably by attracting target cells to the initial site of infection.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Role of pp38 in Regulation of Marek’s Disease Virus Bi-directional Promoter between pp38 and 1.8-kb mRNA

TL;DR: The significantly lower promoter activity in the pp38 deletion virus suggests that pp38 can regulate the activity of the bi-directional promoters, especially in the direction of 1.8-kb mRNA family.
Journal ArticleDOI

Marek's disease virus latent protein MEQ: delineation of an epitope in the BR1 domain involved in nuclear localization.

TL;DR: Deletion mutants from the basic and bZIP domains provided direct evidence that monoclonal antibody reactive epitope is localized in the BR1 domain of the molecule.
