Journal ArticleDOI
Microplastics in soils: a review of possible sources, analytical methods and ecological impacts
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed over 60 articles, with the following objectives: (i) to discuss sources and the global distribution of microplastics in soils; (ii) to evaluate current extraction techniques and analytical methods for microplastic in soil; and (iii) to comprehensively assess their adverse impacts on soils and soil organisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microplastic pollution in the surface sediments collected from Sishili Bay, North Yellow Sea, China
Bin Zhang,Di Wu,Xin Yang,Jia Teng,Yongliang Liu,Chen Zhang,Jianmin Zhao,Xiaonan Yin,Liping You,Yanfang Liu,Qing Wang +10 more
TL;DR: Microplastic pollution level in port, sewage outfall, estuary and aquaculture area of Sishili Bay was relatively high, which indicated that microplastics pollution was mainly sourced from river and sewage discharge and maritime activities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Research progress of nanoplastics in freshwater
TL;DR: It has been found that the small size and high surface area of NPs make them more toxic to organisms than microplastics, however, most of the current toxicological studies of NPS on freshwater organisms could not be simulated in real environment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatial and seasonal variations in biofilm formation on microplastics in coastal waters
Bin Zhang,Xin Yang,Lingchen Liu,Liang Chen,Jia Teng,Xiaopeng Zhu,Jianmin Zhao,Qing Wang,Qing Wang +8 more
TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors showed that the total amounts of biofilms significantly varied among seasons and functional zones and that the temperature of seawater was the main influencing factor, which suggests that low-density MPs may settle quickly in summer in some eutrophic areas.
Journal ArticleDOI
Research Progress of Microplastics in Freshwater Sediments in China
TL;DR: This paper reviews the research progress of microplastics in freshwater sediments in China, discusses several commonly used methods of sampling, separation, and detection, and introduces the degradation methods ofmicroplastics.
