TL;DR: Among patients undergoing noncardiac surgery, the peak postoperative troponin T measurement during the first 3 days after surgery was significantly associated with 30-day mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chrolavicius,Salim Yusuf,Salim Yusuf,Abstr Act,Abstr Act +45 more
TL;DR: Administration of aspirin before surgery and throughout the early postsurgical period had no significant effect on the rate of a composite of death or nonfatal myocardial infarction but increased the risk of major bleeding.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chrolavicius,Salim Yusuf,Salim Yusuf,Abstr Act,Abstr Act +45 more
TL;DR: Administration of low-dose clonidine in patients undergoing noncardiac surgery did not reduce the rate of the composite outcome of death or nonfatal myocardial infarction; it did, however, increase the risk of clinically important hypotension andNonfatal cardiac arrest.
Journal ArticleDOI
Withholding Versus Continuing Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitors or Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers Before Noncardiac Surgery: An Analysis of the Vascular Events in Noncardiac Surgery Patients Cohort Evaluation Prospective Cohort
Breagh Devereaux,Alexandra Thompson,P. J. Devereaux,Emmanuelle Duceppe,Bram Rochwerg,Zubin Punthakee,Frederick A. Spencer,Flávia Kessler Borges,Robert D. Sanders,Emilie P. Belley-Côté,James Paul,Omid Salehian,Pavel S Roshanov,D. I. Sessler,Karen Raymer,M. Koshy,G. H. Guyatt,Ameen Patel,Andrew Worster,Y Le Manach,Erin N. Sloan,Vikas Tandon,Erin E. Morley +22 more
TL;DR: It is shown that withholding these drugs before major noncardiac surgery in this study was correlated with a lower risk of death and postoperative vascular events, and should be further studied in larger randomized trials to corroborate the findings that withholding ACEIs/ARBs leads to improved patient outcomes and reduced risk of perioperative hypotension.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anaphylaxis to rocuronium
TL;DR: Two new cases of documented grade III anaphylaxis, leading to death in one patient, are reported, both in an 81-year-old ASA II woman scheduled for emergency abdominal surgery and a 64- year-old man scheduled for abdominal surgery.
