This compilation revises the 1991 listing of atomic data for the lighter elements from hydrogen to gallium. The tabulation emphasizes resonance lines, i.e., lines whose lower level is the ground state, or an excited fine-structure state of the ground term, and is restricted to wavelengths longward of the H I Lyman limit at 911.753 ?. All but the very weakest known and predicted electric-dipole transitions are included, but no forbidden lines. This paper has attempted to review all data published by the end of 2002.?????The tables contain the best data available to the author on ionization potentials, level designations, vacuum and air wavelengths, lower and upper energy levels, statistical weights, transition probabilities, natural damping constants (reciprocal lifetimes), oscillator strengths, and the often used combinations of log gf and log ?f. All ion stages with relevant classified lines are included. Individual components resulting from isotope shift and hyperfine structure are listed explicitly for certain species. The accompanying text provides references, explanations for the critical selection of data, and notes indicating where new measurements or calculations are needed.?????This compilation should be particularly useful in the analysis of interstellar and quasar absorption lines and other astrophysical sites where the density of particles and radiation is low enough to excite only the lowest atomic levels. The data also are relevant to the study of stellar atmospheres, and gaseous nebulae.?????An Appendix summarizes new data relevant to the similar compilation in Paper II for the elements germanium to uranium.

Atomic Data for Resonance Absorption Lines. III. Wavelengths Longward of the Lyman Limit for the Elements Hydrogen to Gallium

Semiempirical pseudopotentials including core-polarization potentials have been generated for main group elements IIIa through VIIa, with main quantum numbers n ⩽ 5. Test calculations with these pseudopotentials have been performed for atomic ionization energies.

Atomic Data for Resonance Absorption Lines. II. Wavelengths Longward of the Lyman Limit for Heavy Elements

Electronic states of highly charged ions show magnified fine-structure, Lamb shift, and hyperfine effects making them sensitive probes of bound-state quantum electrodynamics and nuclear physics. Being also impervious to external perturbations renders them ideal candidates for precision spectroscopy and accurate clocks that could test physics beyond the standard model. This review discusses how a variety of ion species and transitions may optimally be used to target such new applications, and presents routes to handle them in the laboratory.

Highly charged ions: Optical clocks and applications in fundamental physics

We present a high resolution spectral atlas of the HgMn star HD 175640 covering the 3040-10000 A region. UVES spectra observed with 90 000-110 000 resolving power and signal to noise ratio ranging from 200 to 400 are compared with a synthetic spectrum computed with the SYNTHE code (Kurucz 1993b). The model atmosphere is an ATLAS 12 model (Kurucz 1997) with parameters Ten = 12 000 K, log g = 3.95, ξ = 0 km s -1 . The stellar individual abundances in ATLAS 12 were derived from an iterative procedure. The starting atomic line lists downloaded from the Kurucz website have been improved and extended by examining different sources in the literature and by comparing the computed profiles with the observed spectrum. The high quality of the data allowed us to study the isotopic and hyperfine structure for several lines of Mn II, Ga II, Ba II, Pt II, Hg i, and Hg II. Numerous weak emission lines from Cr II and Ti II have been identified in the red part of the spectrum, starting at λ 5847 A. Two emission lines of C (mult. 10, mult. 9) have been observed for the first time. All Cr II and Ti II emission lines originate from the high excitation states (X low A 89 000 cm -1 for CrII and X low ≥ 62000 cm -1 for Ti II ) with large transition probabilities (log gf > -1.00). A spectroscopic atlas of the HgMn star HD 175640 (B9 V) $\lambda\lambda$ 3040–10 000 Å

The spectra of various ions of xenon were investigated in the 70–170 A region. The earlier analysis of the 4d9–4d85p transitions Kaufman et al., J. Opt. Soc. Am. B 73, 691 (1983) in Rh-like Xe X was confirmed except for the two highest 4d8(1S)5p 2P levels. The 4p64d9–(4p64d85p84f +4p54d10) transitions arrays were studied. We have established 28 new levels belonging to the odd parity system and classified 40 additional lines in Xe X. The spectrum is adequately described by the Hartree–Fock and parametric least-squares-fitting calculations. The resonance transitions from the highly excited 4d9(6p+5f+7p+6f) levels in Pd-like Xe IX and the 4105s 2S–4d95s4f 2P transitions in Ag-like Xe VIII have also been identified. The ionization potential of Xe IX has been calculated to be 1450500±1000 cm-1 (179.85±0.10 eV). The results from all three spectra are in good agreement with the Rh I, Pd I and Ag I isoelectronic sequences data.

Analysis of the 4p64d84f and 4p54d10 Configurations of Xe X and Some Highly Excited Levels of Xe VIII and Xe IX Ions

The spectrum of iodine was photographed on a 3-m normal incidence spectrograph at the Antigonish laboratory using a triggered spark source in the 300-1200 A region. Eleven out of twelve levels of the 5p5d configuration and all four levels of the 5p6s configuration of I VI have been established. The missing level 5p2 1S0 has been located and two levels 5s5d 1D2 and 5s6s 1S0 reported earlier have been revised. The beam foil spectra obtained at the University of Alberta in Edmonton complemented the spark data. The least-square-fitting (LSF) and Hartree-Fock calculations were carried out to interpret the level scheme. Sixty-six new lines have been classified in this spectrum.

Revised and extended analysis of i vi

The spectrum of ten times ionized xenon, Xe XI, was observed in the region 105–157 A with a low-inductance vacuum spark and a 107 m grazing-incidence spectrograph About 200 lines belonging to the 4d8–(4d75p + 4d74f + 4p54d9) transition array were observed 140 of these lines are in the region 130–140 A, which is of importance for extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography The spectrum was interpreted by means of Hartree–Fock calculations and orthogonal parameters using scaling factors for the energy parameters obtained by extrapolation along the Rh II isoelectronic sequence All 9 levels of the 4d8 configuration and 123 levels of the 4d75p + 4d74f + 4p54d9 configurations were established Transition probabilities for all observed lines were calculated with fitted values of the energy parameters A value of 1847200 ± 1600 cm-1 (22902 ±020 eV) was obtained for the ionization energy

4p64d8–(4d75p + 4d74f + 4p54d9) Transitions in Xe XI

Some 5d-elements are present in chemical peculiar stars of Hg-Mn type and the interpretation of their spectra II and III needs revisions and extensions. The existing data are used for predictions in the OsI isoelectronic sequence, within the framework of the Slater-Racah parametric method and with the support of generalized least squares fits for the energy parameters. Far configurations effects are described by effective parameters of electrostatic and magnetic types and the mixing of 5d8, 5d76s and 5d66s2 is calculated explicitly. The results on the sequence Ir II-Bi VIII are compared with those obtained on the similar sequence of the 4d-elements from Rh II to Sb VIII.

Spectra of high-Z ions of stellar interest. a theoretical study of (d + s)8 mixed configurations in 5d- and 4d- elements

We have carried out a detailed analysis of the 4d10 1S0-4d9(np+nf) J=1 resonance transitions of the Pd I like spectra from Cd III to Cs X. A total of 130 lines have been classified, 99 of them for the first time as belonging to the 4d9(np+n'f) J=1 levels for n=5-7, n'=4-9. Some earlier identifications of Sb VI, Te VII and I VIII have been revised. Ionization potentials have been calculated for all spectra limiting on the 4d9 2D5/2 of the next ion.
