Journal ArticleDOI

Flow-induced vibration control of a circular cylinder by using flexible and rigid splitter plates

TL;DR: In this article , a flexible splitter plate with a streamwise length greater than one cylinder diameter was used to suppress the vortex-induced vibration in a circular cylinder, and the reduction in the maximum amplitude reached about 91% compared with the natural case.
Journal ArticleDOI

Passive oscillations of inverted flags in a uniform flow

TL;DR: In this paper, the passive oscillations of inverted flags are investigated both experimentally and theoretically based on the experimental data, and a linear analysis of the critical flow velocities obtained from the experiments at small mass ratios are scattered around the theoretical curve of parallel inverted flags.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dual leading-edge vortex structure for flow over a simplified butterfly model

TL;DR: The dye visualization experiments showed that a dual leading edge vortex (LEV) structure exists on the suction side of a simplified butterfly model of Papilio ulysses at α = 8°−12° as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vortex structure for flow over a heaving cylinder with a flexible tail

TL;DR: In this article, a heaving cylinder attached with a flexible tail along the wake central line in a water channel has been mapped in the flexible tail length-frequency (L/D, St) phase space.
