TL;DR: In order to know the mechanisms of boilover in a large tank, large-scale experiments using a 5-m diameter pan filled with crude oil were conducted as mentioned in this paper, where the initial fuel layer thickness was 0.45m and at about 70min after ignition, boilover occurred.

Evaluation of the Burning characteristics of vegetable oils in comparison with fuel and lubricating oils

TL;DR: In this article, burning characteristics of vegetable oils, lubricating oils and fuel oils were obtained by experiments using 90 mm diameter stainless steel pans, and it was found that the flame height and flame radiation and burning rate of the vegetable oils were larger than those that were expected from their flash points.
