Journal ArticleDOI
Klotho Inhibits Transforming Growth Factor-β1 (TGF-β1) Signaling and Suppresses Renal Fibrosis and Cancer Metastasis in Mice
Shigehiro Doi,Yonglong Zou,Osamu Togao,Johanne Pastor,George John,Lei Wang,Kazuhiro Shiizaki,Russell Gotschall,Susan C. Schiavi,Noriaki Yorioka,Masaya Takahashi,David A. Boothman,Makoto Kuro-o +12 more
TL;DR: It is shown that renal fibrosis induced by unilateral ureteral obstruction and metastasis of human cancer xenografts are suppressed by administration of secreted Klotho protein to mice, raising the possibility thatsecreted Kloths may function as an endogenous anti-EMT factor by inhibiting multiple growth factor signaling pathways simultaneously.
Journal ArticleDOI
Overcoming endosomal barrier by amphotericin B-loaded dual pH-responsive PDMA-b-PDPA micelleplexes for siRNA delivery.
Haijun Yu,Yonglong Zou,Yiguang Wang,Xiaonan Huang,Gang Huang,Baran D. Sumer,David A. Boothman,Jinming Gao +7 more
TL;DR: Data support the central hypothesis that membrane poration by AmB and increased endosomal swelling and membrane tension by a "proton sponge" polymer provided a synergistic strategy to disrupt endosomes for improved intracellular delivery of siRNA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Intracellular Clusterin Inhibits Mitochondrial Apoptosis by Suppressing p53-Activating Stress Signals and Stabilizing the Cytosolic Ku70-Bax Protein Complex
Ioannis P. Trougakos,Magda Lourda,Marianna H. Antonelou,Dimitris Kletsas,Vassilis G. Gorgoulis,Issidora S. Papassideri,Yonglong Zou,Lukas H. Margaritis,David A. Boothman,Efstathios S. Gonos +9 more
TL;DR: Elevated sCLU levels may enhance tumorigenesis by interfering with Bax proapoptotic activities and contribute to one of the major characteristics of cancer cells, that is, resistance to apoptosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Mechanism of DAB2IP in Chemoresistance of Prostate Cancer Cells
Kaijie Wu,Daxing Xie,Yonglong Zou,Tingting Zhang,Tingting Zhang,Rey-Chen Pong,Guanghua Xiao,Ladan Fazli,Martin E. Gleave,Dalin He,David A. Boothman,Jer Tsong Hsieh +11 more
TL;DR: Clusterin is a key target for developing more effective CRPC therapy and a significantly inverse correlation between DAB2IP and Egr-1 or Clusterin expression from clinical tissue microarray is observed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Low dose IR-induced IGF-1-sCLU expression: A p53-repressed expression cascade that interferes with TGFβ1 signaling to confer a pro-survival bystander effect
Dmitry Klokov,Konstantin Leskov,Shinako Araki,Yonglong Zou,Eva M. Goetz,Xiuquan Luo,David Willson,David A. Boothman +7 more
TL;DR: Secretory clusterin (sCLU), an extracellular molecular chaperone, induced by low doses of cytotoxic agents, clears cell debris and is a pro-survival bystander factor that abrogates TGFβ1 signaling and most likely promotes wound healing.
