High-Frequency Dynamics of Ocean pH: A Multi- Ecosystem Comparison
Gretchen E. Hofmann,Jennifer E. Smith,Kenneth S. Johnson,Uwe Send,Lisa A. Levin,Fiorenza Micheli,Adina Paytan,Nichole N. Price,Brittany Peterson,Yuichiro Takeshita,Paul G. Matson,Elizabeth D. Crook,Kristy J. Kroeker,Maria Cristina Gambi,Emily B. Rivest,Christina A. Frieder,Pauline C. Yu,Todd R. Martz +17 more
TL;DR: A compilation of continuous, high-resolution time series of upper ocean pH, collected using autonomous sensors, over a variety of ecosystems ranging from polar to tropical, open-ocean to coastal, kelp forest to coral reef, reveals a continuum of month-long pH variability with characteristic diel, semi-diurnal, and stochastic patterns of varying amplitudes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Best practices for autonomous measurement of seawater pH with the Honeywell Durafet
TL;DR: In this article, the Honeywell Durafet sensor packages employed by autonomous pH sensors were evaluated by comparing in situ data to independent bench-top measurements of pH and to co-located pH, O2, and p CO 2 sensors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Observing the Global Ocean with Biogeochemical-Argo.
TL;DR: With the proposed expansion of BGC-Argo in the near future, this network has the potential to become a pivotal observation system that links satellite and ship-based observations in a transformative manner.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deep-Sea DuraFET: A Pressure Tolerant pH Sensor Designed for Global Sensor Networks
Kenneth S. Johnson,Hans W. Jannasch,Luke J. Coletti,Virginia A. Elrod,Todd R. Martz,Yuichiro Takeshita,Robert J. Carlson,James G. Connery +7 more
TL;DR: A pressure tolerant Ion Sensitive Field Effect Transistor pH sensor that is based on the Honeywell Durafet ISFET die enables a global ocean observing system for ocean pH.
