Journal ArticleDOI

Strain Engineering of 2D Materials: Issues and Opportunities at the Interface

TL;DR: These advances highlight how the strain or strain-coupled applications of 2D materials rely on the interfacial properties, essentially shear and adhesion, and finally offer direct guidelines for deterministic design of mechanical strains into 2D material for ultrathin semiconductor applications.
Journal ArticleDOI

Graphene Reinforced Carbon Nanotube Networks for Wearable Strain Sensors

TL;DR: In this paper, an enhancement of the strength and load transfer capabilities of carbon nanotubes by chemical vapor deposition of graphene in the nanotube voids is proposed, which significantly strengthens the CNT networks, especially at nanotub joints, and enhances their resistance to buckling and bundling under large cyclic strain up to 20%.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multiscale Hierarchical Design of a Flexible Piezoresistive Pressure Sensor with High Sensitivity and Wide Linearity Range

TL;DR: A simple and low-cost method for the fabrication of a flexible piezoresistive pressure sensor with a hierarchical structure over large areas is presented, which demonstrates a high sensitivity of 1.2 kPa-1 and a wide linearity range from 0 to 25 kPa.
Journal ArticleDOI

Measuring Interlayer Shear Stress in Bilayer Graphene

TL;DR: The first measurement of the interlayer shear stress of bilayer graphene based on pressurized microscale bubble loading devices is reported, and an experimental method for characterizing the fundamental inter layer shear properties of the emerging 2D materials is established for potential applications in multilayer systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bending of Multilayer van der Waals Materials

TL;DR: Direct measurements of bending rigidity of multilayer graphene, molybdenum disulfide (MoS), and hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) based on pressurized bubbles are reported.
