ERP implementation issues have been given much attention since two decades ago due to its low implementation success. Nearly 90 percent of ERP implementations are late or over budget (Martin, 1998) and the success rate with ERP implementation is about 33%. In China, the success rate of implementing ERP systems is extremely low at 10% (Zhu and Ma, 1999) which is much lower than that in West countries. This study attempts to study critical success factors affecting enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems implementation success in China with focus on both generic and unique factors. User satisfaction and White's ABCD classification method are used to judge whether an ERP system implementation is a success or a failure. Survey methodology and structural equation modeling technique of PLS-graph are used to collect and analyze data. Discussions on the results of data analysis are made.

Effects of alternating current on Li-ion battery performance: Monitoring degradative processes with in-situ characterization techniques

With the growing intensive global competition and integration of the world economy, manufacturing firms have to reduce inventory level and operation costs, improve customer service to obtain competitive advantage against their competitors. Manufacturing companies are forced to adopt new methods to achieve the above objectives. Enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is one of the most widely accepted choices. Significant benefits such as improved customer service, better production scheduling, and reduced manufacturing costs can accrue from the successful implementation of ERP (Ang et al, 1995). However, the successful implementation rate is extremely low especially in China and many firms didn’t achieve intended goals. Thus, it’s necessary for ERP practitioners and researchers to investigate the reasons why the implementation success rate of ERP systems in China is so low. Prior studies mainly focus on critical success factors or single ERP implementation success measure without theoretical support. This study attempts to combine Ives, Hamilton, and Davis (1980) MIS research model and DeLone & McLean’s (1992) IS success model to develop an ERP implementation success model, identifying both generic and unique factors that affect ERP systems implementation success in China and using multiple ERP implementation success measures to assess whether an ERP implementation is a success or failure.

ERP Systems Implementation Determinants and Success Measures in China: A Case Study Approach

The charge/discharge current profile is one of the most important factors that affects the behavior of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Most of previous studies evaluate the behavior of LIBs under pure constant current conditions, when in reality battery packs in arguably the most important applications experience alternating currents (AC), superimposed on DC components. So-called ‘ripple currents’ commonly present at twice line frequency (i.e., 100/120 Hz) and their presence forces designers of single-phase AC-DC converters to incorporate a large DC-link capacitor into these devices. And yet, all this effort presupposes that AC ripple constitutes a serious problem, when it is still unclear to what extent the LIB lifetime may be reduced by the presence of 100 Hz ripple current. While many studies claim that AC harmonics accelerate the degradation of LIBs, there are others that refute this. Different chemistries of LIBs have been included in these studies, however, a systematic study on cells with LiFePO 4 (LFP) as the cathode material, considered as one of the most promising chemistries in many different applications, has not been done yet. This paper presents the results of a detailed and systematic experimental study on aging impacts of 100 Hz-ripple currents on 13 fresh LFP cells. The degradation of the cells is characterized based on capacity fade and impedance rise. The results show that the superimposed 100 Hz ripple currents do not cause a significant amount of degradation on LFP cells. This means that in many inverters, the size of the DC-link capacitor is probably excessive, thereby allowing a marked reduction in size of this expensive system component.
