Journal ArticleDOI
Circadian variation in the frequency of onset of acute myocardial infarction
James E. Muller,Peter Stone,Zoltan G. Turi,John D. Rutherford,Charles A. Czeisler,Corette B. Parker,W. K. Poole,Eugene R. Passamani,Robert Roberts,Thomas L. Robertson +9 more
TL;DR: If coronary arteries become vulnerable to occlusion when the intima covering an atherosclerotic plaque is disrupted, the circadian timing of myocardial infarction may result from a variation in the tendency to thrombosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of diabetes mellitus on prognosis and serial left ventricular function after acute myocardial infarction: Contribution of both coronary disease and diastolic left ventricular dysfunction to the adverse prognosis☆
Peter Stone,Peter Stone,James E. Muller,James E. Muller,Tyler Hartwell,Tyler Hartwell,B. J. York,B. J. York,John D. Rutherford,John D. Rutherford,Corette B. Parker,Corette B. Parker,Zoltan G. Turi,Zoltan G. Turi,H. William Strauss,H. William Strauss,James T. Willerson,James T. Willerson,Thomas S. Robertson,Thomas S. Robertson,Eugene Braunwald,Eugene Braunwald,Allan S. Jaffe,Allan S. Jaffe +23 more
TL;DR: The factors responsible for the increased incidence of adverse outcomes among diabetic patients may be related to an acceleration of the atherosclerotic process, diastolic left ventricular dysfunction associated with diabetic cardiomyopathy or other unidentified unfavorable processes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prognostic significance of location and type of myocardial infarction: Independent adverse outcome associated with anterior location
Peter Stone,Daniel S. Raabe,Allan S. Jaffe,Nancy Gustafson,James E. Muller,Zoltan G. Turi,John D. Rutherford,W. Kenneth Poole,Eugene R. Passamani,James T. Willerson,Burton E. Sobel,Thomas S. Robertson,Eugene Braunwald +12 more
TL;DR: Patients with anterior infarction demonstrated a lower left ventricular ejection fraction on admission and after 10 days than did patients with inferior infarctions, even after adjustment for infarct size, as well as a higher incidence of congestive heart failure and cumulative cardiac mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Efficacy of nifedipine therapy in patients with refractory angina pectoris: Significance of the presence of coronary vasospasm
Peter Stone,Peter Stone,James E. Muller,James E. Muller,Zoltan G. Turi,Zoltan G. Turi,Edward M. Geltman,Edward M. Geltman,Allan S. Jaffe,Allan S. Jaffe,Eugene Braunwald,Eugene Braunwald +11 more
TL;DR: The addition of nifedipine significantly decreased the mean frequency of angina attacks/week in group I from 14.4 to 3.0 (p), and angina frequency and nitroglycerin use were compared on conventional therapy before and after the addition ofnifedIPine.
Journal ArticleDOI
A simplified method to predict occurrence of complete heart block during acute myocardial infarction
Gervasio A. Lamas,Gervasio A. Lamas,James E. Muller,James E. Muller,Zoltan G. Turi,Zoltan G. Turi,Peter Stone,Peter Stone,John D. Rutherford,John D. Rutherford,Allan S. Jaffe,Allan S. Jaffe,Daniel S. Raabe,Daniel S. Raabe,Robert E. Rude,Robert E. Rude,Daniel B. Mark,Daniel B. Mark,Robert M. Califf,Robert M. Califf,Herman K. Gold,Herman K. Gold,Thomas S. Robertson,Thomas S. Robertson,Eugene R. Passamani,Eugene R. Passamani,Eugene Braunwald,Eugene Braunwald +27 more
TL;DR: When applied to an independent AMI data base, as well as to the summed results of 6 previously reported series that identified predictors of CHB during AMI, a similar incremental risk ofCHB as predicted by the risk score method was demonstrated.
