TL;DR: Examination of the layout of a series of houses at Afyeh, Egyptian Nubia, in 1962 confirmed the presence of wheat and barley, but did not find lentil, grain or peas, although there were some leguminous seeds that have not been identified so far.
Abstract: WHEN the Archaeological Survey of India discovered the layout of a series of houses at Afyeh, Egyptian Nubia, in 1962, some charred cereals were recovered outside one house. At first wheat, barley, lentil, grain, peas and so on were reported. We examined the material later and confirmed the presence of wheat and barley, but did not find lentil, grain or peas, although there were some leguminous seeds that have not been identified so far. Four whole cotton seeds were also identified (Fig. 1) with some fragments.

TL;DR: This second paper of the series on mononchs of India concerns the family Mononchidae Chitwood, 1937, which has been split into two genera, Mononchus (type species M. truncatus Bastian, 1865) and Clarkus n.
Abstract: This second paper of the series on mononchs of India concerns the family Mononchidae Chitwood, 1937. The genus Mononchus Bastian, 1865 has been split into two genera, Mononchus (type species M. truncatus Bastian, 1865) and Clarkus n. gen. (type species C. papillatus (Bastian, 1865) n. comb.). Clarkus is close to Prionchulus and differs in the absence of a denticulate ventral ridge in the buccal cavity. Mononchus aquaticus Coetzee, 1968; Clurkus papillatus (Bastian, 1865) n. comb.; C. parvus (de Man, 1880) n. comb.; and Prionchulus muscorum are reported from India. Mononchus monhystera Cobb, 1917 is recorded from three localities in India and transferred to the genus Iotonchus because of the shape of the buccal capsule and the presence of a tuberculate valve at the esophago-intestinal junction.

TL;DR: Growth of Ophicephalus striatus was studied from zones on the scales as these were found to be suitable for age determination as mentioned in this paper, and Lenght estimates obtained from the scale reading were further substantiated by back-calculations.
Abstract: Growth ofOphicephalus striatus was studied from zones on the scales as these were found to be suitable for age determination. Lenght estimates obtained from the scale reading were further substantiated by back-calculations. Thevon Bertalanffy equation was employed to find out theoretical values of length in respect of various year classes. The theoretical values agreed with the observed values very closely. Length-weight relationship showed that the weight of fish increases slightly faster than the cube of the length. Thevon Bertalanffy equation gave a good fit to weight-age data.

TL;DR: An account of the Indian forms belonging to the familySigniphoridae is given and a new generic character in the subgenital plate of the genusThysanus is proposed.
Abstract: An account of the Indian forms belonging to the familySigniphoridae is given. The family is represented by two genera namely,ThysanusWalker andChartocerusMotschulsky. The genusThysanus with the speciesT. aterWalker is reported for the first time from India, and is redescribed in greater detail. The subdivision of the genusChartocerus into three subgenera (Chartocerus s. str.,XanaKurdjumov, andSigniphorinaNikol’skaja.) proposed byRosanov (1965) is accepted. In the subgenusXana two new species are described and two already known species are recorded. In the subgenusSigniphorina one new species is described. A new generic character in the subgenital plate of the genusThysanus is proposed. The generic character in the subgenital plate of the genusChartocerus described byMan Mohan (1963) is confirmed.

TL;DR: A key to the species of Mylonchulus has been provided and a characteristic contraction of the intestine in the region of the gonads is provided.
Abstract: Twenty seven populations of Mylonchulus from different parts of India, representing five known and five new species, are described. The known species are: Mylonchulus lacustris, M. minor, M. hawaiiensis, M. brachyuris and M. index. M. mulveyi n. sp. has a mono-prodelphic gonad, a buccal cavity with 4 transverse rows of denticles, lacks submedian teeth, has an elongate-conoid tail 2 anal body-widths long, caudal glands grouped and spinneret terminal. M. dentatus n. sp. resembles M. sigmaturus but differs in the number and distribution of the transverse rows of denticles, and in having very conspicuous submedian teeth and vulval papillae. M. nainitalensis n. sp. is similar to M. brachyuris but has smaller body, tail and spicules and its caudal glands are arranged in tandem. M. muradi n. sp. resembles M. orbitus but differs in having a smaller body, in the absence of a sphincter at the oviduct-uterus junction and the absence of vulval papillae. M. contractus n. sp., has a very small body (0.55-0.90 mm) and a characteristic contraction of the intestine in the region of the gonads. M. californicus n. sp., has been proposed for the Californian population of M. index described by Mulvey (1961). A key to the species of Mylonchulus has been provided.

TL;DR: In this paper, a spectrophotometric method for the micro-determination of bromate ions has been described, where a red colored complex is obtained when 3 ml of 5% antipyrine, 3ml of 60% perchloric acid and 1 ml of 0.1M sodium nitrite solution are added in a solution containing bromates.
Abstract: A spectrophotometric method for the micro-determination of bromate ions has been described. A red colored complex is obtained when 3 ml of 5% antipyrine, 3 ml of 60% perchloric acid and 1 ml of 0.1M sodium nitrite solution are added in a solution containing bromate ions. The maximum absorbance occurs at 525 nm. Beer's law is obeyed for solutions containing 25.0–140.0μ/ml of bromate ions. Sensitivity has been found to be 0.029μg BrO3−/cm2 for logI0/I=0.04 with a molar absorptivity of 2·103 moles−1, cm−1. liter. As(III), Ce(IV), Fe(III), CrO42−, Cr2O72−, and Cl− interfere in the determination.

TL;DR: In this paper, the transient response of Euler-Cauchy-type time-varying nonlinear systems is obtained in the form of a functional power series of the Volterra type.
Abstract: The paper presents a new method of obtaining the transient response of Euler-Cauchy-type time-varying nonlinear systems. The use of multidimensional Mellin transforms makes it easier to obtain the system response in the form of a functional power series of the Volterra type. The method of solution is applied to a physical control problem involving time-varying parameters, and the system response is obtained under different operating conditions.

TL;DR: SiBr4 in absolute ether reacts with KNH2 in liquid ammonia at −60°C to give K2Si3(NH)7 and k2Si2(NH5) as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: SiBr4 in absolute ether reacts with KNH2 in liquid ammonia at −60°C to give K2Si3(NH)7 and K2Si2(NH)5; attempts to prepare K4Si(NH)4 by using excess KNH2 were without success. The reaction of SiI4 in absolute ether with KNH2 in liquid ammonia is incomplete at −60°C even after 48 hours, about 80% SiI4 remains unreacted. This reaction when carried out at room temperature gave K2Si(NH)3. All the three imidosilicates are amorphous and decompose in presence of traces of moisture to give corresponding oxosilicates. SiBr4, gelost in abs.

TL;DR: In this article, the Davydov and Rostovsky formalism was used to calculate the transition probabilities for 4+→2+ transitions in some even-even nuclei using the Gaussian distribution.
Abstract: E2-transition probabilities for 4+→2+ transitions have been calculated in some even-even nuclei using Davydov and Rostovsky formalism. The predictions of this model have been compared with the experimental data. From this comparison it has been found that the DR estimates are quite close to the experimental rates. The variations of the ratiosB(E2)exp/B(E2)DR andB(E2)exp/B(E2)SP with nonaxiality parameter «γ0» have been studied. The factorB(E2)exp/B(E2)SP decreases with the increase in the value of nonaxiality parameters, whereas the factorB(E2)exp/B(E2)DR shows a slightly increasing trend.

TL;DR: The solubility behavior of CuI was studied in KI-acetone media in the concentration range of approximately 0.05 to 0.2 M as mentioned in this paper, where Cul2− was the only complex species found to occur in the liquid as well as in the solid phase.
Abstract: The solubility behaviour of CuI was studied in KI-acetone media in the concentration range of approximately 0.05 to 0.2 M. Within this range of iodide concentration, Cul2− was the only complex species found to occur in the liquid as well as in the solid phase. Conductometric studies also indicated the existence of the same species. At 20°C, the concentration equilibrium constant K1K2Ksol for the reaction CuI (sol) + I− = CuI2− is 1.65±0.2.

TL;DR: The Barakar sandstone of Chirimiri (Kurasia) coalfield includes complete or truncated sedimentary cycles, some of which start with pebbly gritty coarse sandstone and, fining upwards through coarse cross bedded sandstone, end up with carbonaceous siltstone or coal seam as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The Barakar sandstone of Chirimiri (Kurasia) coalfield includes complete or truncated sedimentary cycles, some of which commence with pebbly gritty coarse sandstone and, fining upwards through coarse cross bedded sandstone, end up with carbonaceous siltstone or coal seam. Among the primary depositional structures, ripple drift, trough and tabular cross bedded sets and cosets are common. These structures have been described from the genetic and hydrodynamic viewpoints. Erosional structures occurring in the sandstone include channels, scour-and-fill, potholes and flute casts. A paleocurrent analysis based on 88 cross bedding azimuths reveals the preponderance of two depositional current systems - the main current system which flowed from southeast, and a tributary system flowing from east-northeast. An increase in cross bedding variability at higher sampling levels reflects the meandering behaviour of depositing currents. A sedimentary analysis of the sandstone sequence suggests that the Barakar sedimentation in this coalfield was controlled, perhaps right from the beginning, by periodic tectonic uplifts of the granitoid landmass located to the east and southeast. It is suggested each tectonic uplift resulted in the deposition of a fining-upwards fluvial cycle.

TL;DR: The hydriodic acid reduction of α-ketol and α-diketo derivatives of three monoethenoid fatty acids, oleic, petroselinic and erucic acids, has been studied in this article.
Abstract: The hydriodic acid reduction of α-ketol and α-diketo derivatives of three monoethenoid fatty acids, oleic, petroselinic and erucic acids, has been studied. The formation of an isomeric mixture of monoketo acids in each has been established by characterization of monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acids, the hydrolysed fragments of Beckmann rearrangement of the corresponding oximes of monoketo acids, by thin-layer chromatography (TLC). Hydriodic acid has been found to be a satisfactory reagent for the synthesis of monoketo acids from the α-ketol and α-diketo acids.
