TL;DR: A method of rotation-invariant texture classification based on a complete space-frequency model is introduced, and the essential characteristics of a texture sample, its macrofeatures, are derived from the estimated selected parameters of the micromodel.
Abstract: A method of rotation-invariant texture classification based on a complete space-frequency model is introduced. A polar, analytic form of a two-dimensional (2-D) Gabor wavelet is developed, and a multiresolution family of these wavelets is used to compute information-conserving microfeatures. From these microfeatures a micromodel, which characterizes spatially localized amplitude, frequency, and directional behavior of the texture, is formed. The essential characteristics of a texture sample, its macrofeatures, are derived from the estimated selected parameters of the micromodel. Classification of texture samples is based on the macromodel derived from a rotation invariant subset of macrofeatures. In experiments, comparatively high correct classification rates were obtained using large sample sets.

TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for executing a request from a client application is provided for executing data access requests from the client application to a plurality of server applications without knowing the server application's format or syntax requirements.
Abstract: A system and method are provided for executing a request from a client application. Unlike conventional networks in which a client application transmits several data access transactions to several server applications, the client application of these preferred embodiments merely sends a single request to a gateway application, which converts the request into appropriate data access transactions. The preferred embodiments provide the advantage of allowing a client application to communicate with a plurality of server applications without knowing the server application's format or syntax requirements. Further, unlike environments in which a client application compiles data received from each contacted server application, in the environment of the preferred embodiments, the client application is presented with a single integrated response.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the advanced intelligent network to provide caller identification for calls placed over the internet, where a long distance call placed with an internet carrier results in the originating SSP (14) forwarding the call to an originating POP (22) for the internet carrier.
Abstract: The invention uses the advanced intelligent network to provide caller identification for calls placed over the internet (24). A long distance call placed with an internet carrier results in the originating SSP (14) forwarding the call to an originating POP (22) for the internet carrier. The caller ID information is routed through the signaling system 7 network (16) to the SSP (32) in the terminating network. The call is routed to a terminating POP (26) and then to the SSP (32) in the terminating network. The SSP (32) inserts the caller ID information received through the SS7 network (16) and routes the call to the terminating line (30).

TL;DR: In this article, the system determines whether or not standard caller identification information associated with a calling party can be provided to the called party, and if the calling party provides the requested audio identification information, the audio identification is transmitted to the caller.
Abstract: A method and system provide enhanced caller identification information to a called party. The system determines whether or not standard caller identification information associated with a calling party can be provided to the called party. The system preferably determines whether the standard caller identification information is unavailable, incomplete or has been blocked. When the system determines that the standard caller identification information cannot be provided, the system transmits a request for audible caller identification information to the calling party. If the calling party provides the requested audible caller identification information, the audible caller identification information is transmitted to the called party. The called party is thus provided with information about the calling party that can assist the called party in deciding whether or not to answer the call.

TL;DR: In this article, a method of defining a user zone for a mobile user terminal in a wireless communication system including a network controller providing communication services to a plurality of mobile user terminals was proposed.
Abstract: A method of defining a user zone for a mobile user terminal in a wireless communication system including a network controller providing communication services to a plurality of mobile user terminals. The method includes the steps of locating a user terminal within the wireless communication system, referencing at least one user-selected vector from the user terminal location, and transmitting the vector information to the network controller. The network controller, in turn, generates a user zone associated with the user terminal as a function of the vector information such that the user zone defines a geographic region wherein the user terminal can access communication services of the communication system without incurring out-of-network fees. In one aspect of the invention, the user terminal includes a GPS receiver for determining the location of the user terminal and providing a reference for the user-selected vectors defining the desired user zone.

TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for providing call information query stores modified call information associated with a telephone number within the local databases of a service provider's local network, which enables a service providers to unilaterally alter how calls are routed and rated.
Abstract: A system and method for providing call information query stores modified call information associated with a telephone number within the local databases of a service provider's local network. The modified call information enables a service provider to unilaterally alter how calls are routed and rated. The service switching p oints (SSPs) located within a same local network are equipped with modified intelligent network or advanced intelligent network software that enables the local SSPs to receive remote call information resulting from a remote query performed by a remote SSP. The local SSPs analyze the remote call information and generate queries to their local databases to obtain modified call information. New services requiring modified call information can then be implemented based upon the modified call information received as a result of the queries.

TL;DR: In this article, the output of an adjustable gain amplifier is examined to determine if the amplification is incorrect and the utterance should be discarded and a signal to noise (SNR) meter comparison of the output to a threshold determines if the gain amplification is correct, and may increase the gain by an incremental step.
Abstract: A speech recognition, verification and enrollment system includes an adjustable gain amplifier connected to an input speech signal. The output of the adjustable gain amplifier is examined to determine if the amplification is incorrect and the utterance should be discarded. A signal to noise (SNR) meter comparison of the output to a threshold determines if the gain amplification is incorrect, and may increase the gain by an incremental step. An amplitude comparison of the output of the adjustable gain amplifier to a saturation threshold may be included to determine if the gain amplification is incorrect, and reduce the gain by an incremental step. The circuit may be used for the input of several repeated utterances; it reduces the chances of passing a poor representation of utterance features to a feature comparator. Features are extracted that may include an amplitude histogram or the number of voiced speech frames that occur during a response time interval.

TL;DR: In this article, a network for smart card applications using a smart card in combination with a smart terminal is described, which includes a communications network connected to at least one smart card terminal, and a central database server in operative communication with the network central office.
Abstract: A network for smart card applications using a smart card in combination with a smart card terminal. The network arrangement includes a communications network connected to at least one smart card terminal, and a central database server in operative communication with the network central office. The network central office is part of the public switched telephone network and transmits smart card data between the smart card terminal and central database server. The central database server includes many partitioned memory locations each containing information associated with a smart card application. The information contained in the partitioned memory locations is accessible by data pointers stored on the individual smart cards. In this manner, the amount of data stored on the smart cards using the system is reduced and all of the information relating to a smart card user is centralized in one location. The central database server includes means for distinguishing between public information and proprietary information stored in the partitioned memory locations.
