TL;DR: The (my)Grid ontology is one component in a larger semantic discovery framework for the identification of the highly distributed and heterogeneous bioinformatics services in the public domain and adopt a spectrum of expressivity and reasoning for different tasks in service annotation and discovery.
Abstract: myGrid supports in silico experiments in the life sciences, enabling the design and enactment of workflows as well as providing components to assist service discovery, data and metadata management. The myGrid ontology is one component in a larger semantic discovery framework for the identification of the highly distributed and heterogeneous bioinformatics services in the public domain. From an initial model of formal OWL-DL semantics throughout, we now adopt a spectrum of expressivity and reasoning for different tasks in service annotation and discovery. Here, we discuss the development and use of the myGrid ontology and our experiences in semantic service discovery.

TL;DR: One key focus is on the issue of interworking between wireless LAN and 2G/3G networks, which is a means of giving BT an opportunity to provide mobile services without owning any regulated spectrum.
Abstract: Wireless LAN technology has grown rapidly in importance over the last two years, because it fills a real user need at a cost the user can afford. This paper firstly provides a brief description of the main technology used for wireless LANs today. We then consider applications of wireless LAN technologies, including wireless hot-spots, home and corporate networks. One key focus is on the issue of interworking between wireless LAN (WLAN) and 2G/3G networks, which is a means of giving BT an opportunity to provide mobile services without owning any regulated spectrum. Consideration of other potential applications, including ad hoc community networks and real-time services, demonstrates that currently WLAN technology cannot meet all future requirements; we therefore also examine technology developments that address these specific problems.

TL;DR: This paper describes how location information from GPS positioning can be used to supplement local knowledge in call centres to assist with the scheduling and deployment of people working remotely.
Abstract: This paper looks at how location information can be used either on its own or integrated with other information sources to provide business advantage for companies. It describes how location information from GPS positioning can be used to supplement local knowledge in call centres to assist with the scheduling and deployment of people working remotely, and then also explains how location information can be obtained from a caller's handset and used to assist in finding their location and subsequently integrating this into a call centre application.

TL;DR: A collaborative effort has achieved a balance between promoting aggregation and sharing of information resources, and reserving profile management and privacy settings for the individual user through the successful integration of expertise in personal software agents, resource management middleware, and eCommunity platforms.
Abstract: Even in Web communities where the primary aim is to share information and networks with members of similar interests, personalised information management services are highly desirable. Applications that tailor services to the individual improve personal productivity and increase the value of the underlying eCommunity beyond a social or networking instrument. Thus, software systems designed to support Web communities should satisfy dual and somewhat conflicting objectives of maximising member interaction and information sharing, while providing personalised services and protecting individual privacy. One collaborative effort described in this paper has, we believe, achieved those objectives, via a balance between, on the one hand, promoting aggregation and sharing of information resources, and, on the other hand, reserving profile management and privacy settings for the individual user. The successful integration of expertise in personal software agents, resource management middleware, and eCommunity platforms has culminated in a commercial product, through the joint efforts of BTexact Technologies, Fujitsu Laboratories, and Teamware Group Ltd.

TL;DR: Evaluated graphical techniques used to communicate strategic direction within larger organizations use pictures or graphics with embedded metaphors to communicate clearer strategic messages, they encourage dialogue and inclusiveness from all employees within the process, and they show connectivity of information.
Abstract: This paper looks at a current management consultant-driven fashion for using graphical techniques to communicate strategic direction within larger organizations. Recent literature shows that many strategic change programmes fail through poor or miscommunication of the organization's strategic objectives, suggesting there is a need in the marketplace for new communication techniques. This research evaluates the use of one graphical technique within three organizations to explore how it is being used and what the benefits of using this technique are. These new graphical techniques are felt to be more effective than traditional strategy communication techniques and our research suggests that this is because they consider both the communication medium and the content and presentation of the information in the strategic message. In particular, these techniques use pictures or graphics with embedded metaphors to communicate clearer strategic messages, they encourage dialogue and inclusiveness from all employees within the process, they show connectivity of information, they facilitate the ability to remember the strategy and they are novel.
