TL;DR: Interannual comparisons indicate that total Vibrio spp.
Abstract: Using a refined quantitative polymerase chain reaction assay, we compared surface and bottom water concentrations of Vibrio vulnificus with total Vibrio spp. concentrations, fecal indicator bacteria (Escherichia coli and Enterococcus sp.), and environmental parameters (salinity, temperature, chlorophyll a, and turbidity) over 4 years at a mesohaline site in the Neuse River Estuary in North Carolina. V. vulnificus was not detected when water temperature was below 20 °C and 93 % of positive samples were from salinities 10–20 psu. V. vulnificus was detected in 50 % of summer samples with peak concentrations in summer bottom waters. Significant positive correlations for V. vulnificus and temperature, salinity, and bacterial group abundance were found. Significant negative correlations with chlorophyll a were also observed. Interannual comparisons indicated a significant decrease in mean V. vulnificus since 2005, corresponding with increasing salinity due to severe drought conditions in 2007 and 2008. Total Vibrio spp. abundance also decreased in 2007 but returned to the previously observed abundance by 2008. Although a significant positive relationship between total Vibrio spp. and V. vulnificus was documented, interannual comparisons indicate that total Vibrio spp. densities may not be indicative of V. vulnificus in all environmental conditions and that long-term drought conditions may alter community composition.

TL;DR: A process engineering approach that treats the software development process in its entirety and distinct from its unique application to any specific project is described, which concludes that productivity improvement must begin with attention to quality.
Abstract: Quality and productivity considerations have become increasingly important in software development. Many different tools and techniques have been developed to improve individual activities within the software process. Software development is a complex interacting system of activities that cannot be isolated from each other. The paper describes a process engineering approach that treats the software development process in its entirety and distinct from its unique application to any specific project. Its central thesis is that productivity improvement must begin with attention to quality.

TL;DR: Detailed chemical maps of the lunar surface have been constructed by applying a new weighted-filter imaging technique to Apollo 15 and Apollo 16 x-ray fluorescence data.
Abstract: Detailed chemical maps of the lunar surface have been constructed by applying a new weighted-filter imaging technique to Apollo 15 and Apollo 16 x-ray fluorescence data. The data quality improvement is amply demonstrated by (i) modes in the frequency distribution, representing highland and mare soil suites, which are not evident before data filtering and (ii) numerous examples of chemical variations which are correlated with small-scale (about 15 kilometer) lunar topographic features.

01 Jan 1987TL;DR: In this paper, a comparison of the percentage of TBT associated with particulates as measured by solvent extraction and direct borohydrlde derlvatizatlon is described.
Abstract: A comparison of the percentage of TBT associated with particulates as measured by solvent extraction and direct borohydrlde derlvatizatlon is described. This study shows that some particulate associated TBT is unavailable to direct derlvatlzatlon. The percentage of particulate associated TBT varies with the site sampled. This value is high In San Diego Bay's commercial basin which is influenced by yacht repair activity. Trlbutyltin in particulate fractions treated by solvent extraction ranged from 7.5 to 22% of the total TBT values determined in unfiltered seawater. Tributyltin percentages (4.5-13%) determined in unextracted particul ate fractions were lower than those calculated In fractions treated by solvent extraction from the same sample.
