TL;DR: Fatty acid synthetase (FAS) activity was found both in the microsomal and cytosolic fractions of the egg of the Hemiptera Triatoma infestans and is much more efficient than by the soluble form.

TL;DR: The alkaline phosphatase activity of chick embryo frontal bones at 12 days of development is significantly increased when the rudiments are cultivated in a medium containing dehydro-epiandrosterone or testosterone.
Abstract: Chick embryo frontal bones at 12 days of development, cultivated in vitro on plasma clots with dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate in a concentration 1mM, exhibit periosteal hyperplasia and increased synthesis of osteoid tissue. These phenomena are not observed when 11-day frontals are cultivated in similar conditions. Testosterone produces the same effects as dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate. Both steroids seem to act directly on bone as can be inferred from the experimental conditions employed. The alkaline phosphatase activity of chick embryo frontal bones at 12 days of development is significantly increased when the rudiments are cultivated in a medium containing dehydro-epiandrosterone or testosterone. In both cases a) enzyme kinetics experiments revealed that there is activation of the enzyme and b) the apparent maximum velocities obtained are hihgly correlated with the logarithm of the doses employed. When assayed simultaneously, both steroids were found equally active in promoting the increase in alkaliue phosphatase activity.

TL;DR: It is concluded that lack of androgen reaction through the effects of nonsteroid antiandrogens and castration on prepubertal rats produced ahypertrophia-hyperplasia of the FSH cells, and hypertrophia of LH-secreting cells, with marked alterations at the ultrastructural level suggestive of a hyperstimulation stage.
Abstract: Specific blockade of the androgen receptor by the nonsteroid antiandrogens flutamide and Casodex has proven to be a useful tool for studying androgens in vivo. The aim of the present study was to inve

TL;DR: It has been found that the chick embryo adrenal glands can secrete corticoids from the 5th day onwards by adding ACTH to the culture medium and the rate of increase of corticosteroid secretion due to ACTH is a constant within the interval of development investigated.
Abstract: The secretory capacity of the chick embryo adrenal was investigated at different stages of its development employing a sensitive bioassay for corticosteroids based upon the modifications produced in vitro by these hormones on the height of the chick embryo duodenal mucosa. The adrenal gland cultivated in contact with explants of duodenum and stimulated with increasing doses of ACTH exhibited a mucosal response similar to that produced by corticosterone, both in the slope of the bioassay dose—response curve and in the histological pattern. It has been found that the chick embryo adrenal glands can secrete corticoids from the 5th day onwards by adding ACTH to the culture medium. The basal (unstimulated) secretory capacity of the gland (registered from the 8th day on) is significantly correlated with the total protein content of the adrenals in the different stages of development studied. The maximal secretory capacity of the gland (measured with the dose of ACTH which produces the maximal response) increases steadily up to the 10th day. The rate of increase of corticosteroid secretion due to ACTH is a constant within the interval of development investigated.
