TL;DR: Rice husk, a non-conventional adsorbent is efficient in removing Ni (II) from an aqueous solution and fitted well into Freundlich adsorption isotherm.
Abstract: The present investigation was carried out to study the removal of nickel using a non-conventional adsorbent, rice husk. The effects of contact time, adsorbent dosage, pH, concentration of the metal ion and isotherm models are studied in a batch process. A steady trend was observed for all variables. The adsorption percentage increased with increase in contact time, adsorbent dosage and pH, but there was a decrease in adsorption with increase in concentration of the metal ion. K, the adsorbent capacity and 1/n, the adsorption intensity values showed that rice husk, a non-conventional adsorbent is efficient in removing Ni (II) from an aqueous solution. The adsorption data fitted well into Freundlich adsorption isotherm.

TL;DR: Artificial intelligence techniques are applied to estimate the tool condition and tool wear value on line and Kohonen's self-organizing map is applied in neural networks for estimating the tool conditions and the estimation of the tool wearvalue.
Abstract: Tool wear monitoring is one of the most crucial and inevitable processes in present-day manufacturing systems. With the growth of unmanned factories, the need for on-line monitoring systems...

TL;DR: The results obtained in this study suggest that E. compressa extract has compound(s), which inhibit IgE immune response and may have potential in curing various types of allergies.
Abstract: Enteromorpha compressa a marine green algal species grows extensively in North coastal Andhra Pradesh. Besides its nutritional importance it has also been identified as source of anti-anaphylactic compound(s).E. compressa extracts alleviated the IgE levels raised against ovalbumin and other allergens in mice. Further,Enteromorpha extract also significantly down regulated the serum IgE levels in different murine models irrespective of their genetic background. The results obtained in this study suggest thatE. compressa extract has compound(s), which inhibit IgE immune response and may have potential in curing various types of allergies.

TL;DR: In this article, a static vacuum model and a non-static cosmological model corresponding to perfect fluid are presented, and physical and Kinematical properties of the models are also discussed.
Abstract: Field equations in the presence of a perfect fluid distributionc for Einstein-Rosen cylindrically symmetric metric are obtained in the scale-covariant theory of gravitation proposed by Canuto et al. (1977a). A static vacuum model and a non-static cosmological model corresponding to perfect fluid are presented. Physical and Kinematical properties of the models are also discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, high volume sampler was used for the collection of air pollutants, namely suspended particulate matter, nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide from the lake at four locations over a period of one year.
Abstract: Kolleru Lake, a wetland located in India, is one of the largest natural freshwater lakes and is an important sanctuary for indigenous and migratory birds, particularly in winter seasons. The lake is located between latitudes 16°32′ and 16°47′N and longitudes 81°05′ and 81°27′E. The lake is connected to the sea through the Upputeru River, at a distance of 60 km. The lake water is mainly used for drinking water, agriculture, fishing and aquaculture purposes. The lake ecosystem is deteriorating due to the industrial, agricultural and aquacultural activities. High volume sampler was used for the collection of air pollutants, namely suspended particulate matter, nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide from the lake at four locations over a period of one year. Water samples were collected from the lake in three seasons in a year over a period of three years and analyzed for water quality parameter, namely total suspended solids, hardness, chloride, sodium, chemical oxygen demand and biochemical oxygen demand. The aim...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the thermoelectric power of the semi-conducting CuO, ZnO and TiO2 substituted for PbO in eutectic lead vanadate glasses in a range of compositions.
Abstract: Temperature-dependence of the thermoelectric power of the semi-conducting CuO, ZnO and TiO2 substituted for PbO in eutectic lead vanadate glasses was presented in a range of compositions. The high-temperature thermoelectric power was satisfactorily explained by Heikes' relation and the data also showed evidence of small polaron formation in thesae glasses. Thermo EMF measurements indicate that all the glass samples including unsubstituted lead metavanadate are n-type at room temperature. As temperature is increased ZnO and TiO2 substituted samples change from n-type to p-type. The CuO substituted system remains n-type like the unsubstituted system even at high temperatures. When Heike's formula is applied to all the systems at room temperature, the amount of disorder was found to be the same in all the systems. When Emin's formula is used for the estimation of WD, the activation energy due to disorder, in ZnO and TiO2 substituted samples, unusually large values of WD (~ 0.6 eV) are obtained. The present results indicate that the Emin's formula cannot be directly used to estimate the disorder energy in ZnO and TiO2 sustituted lead vanadates. The temperature dependent change of sign of the thermoelectric power S, in these systems may arise due to change in V4+/V5+ ratio with the change of temperature or due to the onset of band type of conduction as in MnO or other extrinsic compensated semi-conductors.

TL;DR: In this paper, a new method is proposed to estimate the average heat transfer coefficients in the entry region of a short length of tube under developing laminar flow conditions, which makes use of the concept that the turbulent mixing length theory can be extrapolated down to the Laminar region with the universal constant K in the eddy diffusivity expression to be dependent on L / D and Reynolds number.

TL;DR: The figures of merit are calculated up to four noise levels and the deterioration performance is evaluated and indicate the performance of the deterioration rate, as the medium gets noisier.
Abstract: For range resolution radar, the usual measure of goodness is obtained from discrimination and merit factor. In addition, the measure of goodness is also expressed with figures of merit, which was proposed earlier. Due to additive noise, it is possible that the transmitted and received signals may not be the same. The return signal is assigned to equivalence classes based on the notion of Hamming distance. The figures of merit are defined in terms of appropriate cross correlation properties averaged over the neighbourhood of the transmitted sequence. For some binary and ternary sequences, the figures of merit are tabulated. They indicate the performance of the deterioration rate, as the medium gets noisier. Here in this paper, the figures of merit are calculated up to four noise levels and the deterioration performance is evaluated.
