TL;DR: X-ray diffraction data obtained under isometrically contracting muscles are subjected to a quick release followed by a shortening ramp of appropriate speed and evidence that at V(o) very few heads form an actomyosin complex is provided.

TL;DR: In this article, a set of covariant equations describing the dynamics of mean fields and their statistical fluctuations in a non-Abelian plasma in or out of equilibrium is derived, and a general procedure is detailed for integrating out the fluctuations as to obtain the effective transport equations for the mean fields.

TL;DR: In this paper, the backreaction problem in semiclassical gravity was considered and the generation of gravitational fluctuations during inflation was analyzed, which is of great interest for large-scale structure formation in cosmology.
Abstract: Interaction with the environment may induce stochastic semiclassical dynamicsin open quantum systems. In the gravitational context, stress-energy fluctuationsof quantum matter fields give rise to a stochastic behavior in the spacetimegeometry. The Einstein—Langevin equation is a suitable tool to take these effectsinto account when addressing the backreaction problem in semiclassical gravity. We analyze within this framework the generation of gravitational fluctuationsduring inflation, which are of great interest for large-scale structure formationin cosmology.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of supercurvature anisotropies combined with the quasiopenness of the inflating regions make some models incompatible with observations, and severely reduces the parameter space of others.
Abstract: Quasiopenness seems to be generic to multi-field models of single-bubble open inflation. Instead of producing infinite open universes, these models actually produce an ensemble of very large but finite inflating islands. In this paper we study the possible constraints from CMB anisotropies on existing models of open inflation. The effect of supercurvature anisotropies combined with the quasiopenness of the inflating regions make some models incompatible with observations, and severely reduces the parameter space of others. Supernatural open inflation and the uncoupled two-field model seem to be ruled out due to these constraints for values of 0 < 0.98. Others, such as the open hybrid inflation model with suitable parameters for the slow roll potential can be made compatible with observations.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors systematically analyze what may be inferred should a new scalar particle be discovered in collider experiments, and they perform the analysis in a manner which minimizes apriori theoretical assumptions as to the nature of the scalar particles.
Abstract: We show how to systematically analyze what may be inferred should a new scalar particle be discovered in collider experiments. Our approach is systematic in the sense that we perform the analysis in a manner which minimizes apriori theoretical assumptions as to the nature of the scalar particle. For instance, we do not immediately make the common assumption that a new scalar particle is a Higgs boson, and so must interact with a strength proportional to the mass of the particles with which it couples. We show how to compare different observables, and so to develop a decision tree from which the nature of the new particle may be discerned. We define several categories of models, which summarize the kinds of distinctions which the first experiments can make.

TL;DR: In this article, the application of the Multi-Wire Proportional Counter (MWPC) as a potential detector for protein crystallography and other wide-angle diffraction experiments is presented.
Abstract: The application of the Multi-Wire Proportional Counter (MWPC) as a potential detector for protein crystallography and other wide-angle diffraction experiments is presented. Electrostatic problems found with our large area MWPC when operated at high pressure are discussed. We suggest that a solution to these problems is to use a glass micro-strip detector in place of the wire frames. The characteristics of a high-pressure Micro-Strip Gas Chamber (MSGC) tested in the laboratory are presented.

TL;DR: The main subjects of the physics program of the proposed next generation of e + e - Linear Colliders in what concerns Standard Model physics are briefly summarized in this paper, while the unique features of such machines in the study of the top quark physics are discussed while the possible measurements in the electroweak gauge boson sector and in QCD are just sketched.
