TL;DR: The purpose of this paper is to present the key motivating factors, limitations or challenges of Lean deployment, benefits of Lean in healthcare and key gaps in the literature as an agenda for future research.
Abstract: Fostered by a rapid spread beyond the manufacturing sector, Lean philosophy for continuous improvement has been widely used in service organizations, primarily in the healthcare sector. However, there is a limited research on the motivating factors, challenges and benefits of implementing Lean in healthcare. Taking this as a valuable opportunity, the purpose of this paper is to present the key motivating factors, limitations or challenges of Lean deployment, benefits of Lean in healthcare and key gaps in the literature as an agenda for future research.,The authors used the secondary data from the literature (peer-reviewed journal articles) published between 2000 and 2016 to understand the state of the art. The systematic review identified 101 articles across 88 journals recognized by the Association of Business Schools ranking guide 2015.,The systematic review helped the authors to identify the evolution, current trends, research gaps and an agenda for future research for Lean in healthcare. A bouquet of motivating factors, challenges/limitations and benefits of Lean in healthcare are presented.,The implications of this work include directions for managers and healthcare professionals in healthcare organizations to embark on a focused Lean journey aligned with the strategic objectives. This work could serve as a valuable resource to both practitioners and researchers for learning, investigating and rightly adapting the Lean in the healthcare sector.,This study is perhaps one of the comprehensive systematic literature reviews covering an important agenda of Lean in Healthcare. All the text, figures and tables featured here are original work carried by five authors in collaboration (from three countries, namely, India, the USA and the UK).

TL;DR: A systematic literature review of the research works on WCM has been performed using Google Scholar as discussed by the authors, where articles with citations of 50 and above as of June 05, 2018 are considered for the detailed citation based analysis.
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to take a stock of what has been studied on working capital management (WCM) so far and ascertain the factors which are more likely to be impacted by poor WCM. Moreover, it aims to spell out the areas for further research on WCM so that the body of knowledge can be expanded. A systematic literature review of the research works on WCM has been performed using Google Scholar. Articles with citations of 50 and above as of June 05, 2018 are considered for the detailed citation based analysis. Further, classification of such articles has been done on the basis of common themes followed by a thorough content analysis. The citation based analysis suggests that there is a growing popularity of studies related to WCM in recent times. However, majority of the impactful studies are published in relatively lower category journals. This further intrigues us to explore the content of such studies. Based on the content, the studies are classified under five different themes. It is found that majority of the highly cited articles have examined the relation between the WCM and profitability of the firms. Moreover, repetitive uses of few proxies in such studies have also been identified. This finding most probably explains the reason behind so many highly cited articles getting published in relatively lower category journals. In view of this, this study tries to explore further scope of research on WCM and lists down potential research questions for the future researches. Firstly, it provides an idea about the most cited area of researches related to WCM and the recent growth of studies in this domain. Academicians can decide upon their future area of research based on the findings related to the proxies and outcome from these studies. Secondly, it shows the most popular avenue of publishing the articles related to WCM which will certainly motivate the researchers to pursue such study. It has been found from the analysis that majority of the impactful articles are published in lower category journals. Therefore, this study identifies the reason behind the same and lists down some innovative research questions to provide some future research directions. Thirdly, the finance managers can use this finding to identify the relevant consequences of poor WCM. Finally, it can serve as a reference point for all future ideas related to WCM. The paper classifies the present literature on WCM into five major themes and performs a content analysis of the same. This is essential as the content analysis highlights different proxies used as inputs which effectively drive efficient WCM. Moreover, the study also identifies the huge scope of future research in the domain of WCM. According to our limited knowledge, such extensive literature review on WCM is rare.

TL;DR: Through interpretive analysis of the lived experiences of members working in an organisation which extensively uses GVTs for achieving its strategic goals, five drivers of employee engagement are conceptualised, namely, cultural intelligence, communication (formal and informal), technology, trust and individual maturity.
Abstract: Global Virtual Teams (GVTs) comprise geographically distributed groups of people collaborating with each other through technology-mediated communication. Members of GVTs are from different cultural backgrounds and time zones, who may (or may not) meet in person to take complex decisions or to deliver on the tasks that are of strategic importance. Though technology has enabled GVTs in almost all multinational organisations across all industries, keeping the members of GVTs engaged over the duration of the team's task or project could still pose a challenge for organisations. Employee engagement is defined as an employee's cognitive, behavioural and physical state directed towards organisational outcomes. While employee engagement has been researched in a collocated team context, it remains an under-researched area in the context of GVTs. Given that there are several characteristics of GVTs which are distinct from the collocated team, it warrants a separate inquiry, which we undertake in this study. This study uses the Job Demands-Resources theory of employee engagement to derive the drivers of employee engagement in GVTs. Through interpretive analysis of the lived experiences of members working in an organisation which extensively uses GVTs for achieving its strategic goals, we conceptualise five drivers of employee engagement, namely, cultural intelligence, communication (formal and informal), technology, trust and individual maturity.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the motivations for Indian firms to invest in tax havens and find that the motivations are not only driven by the benefits of tax avoidance and secrecy of these jurisdictions, but also to seek strategic advantage and efficiency gains in global markets.
Abstract: Little is known about the drivers of corporate investments in tax havens from emerging markets. This paper offers extensive descriptive statistics and regression analysis to illustrate the patterns and motivations for tax haven investments by Indian firms over the 2007–2017 period. We find that the motivations for Indian firms to invest in tax havens are not only driven by the benefits of tax avoidance and secrecy of these jurisdictions, but also to seek strategic advantage and efficiency gains in global markets.

TL;DR: This research attempts to develop a theoretical research framework by integrating psychological empowerment theory and the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) to explore and understand perception of rural population towards digital payments in Indian context.
Abstract: Indian economy is considered as one of the most promising and fast growing among all developing countries in the world. In the current global scenario, India has a number of strengths namely younger population, greater access to mobile phones, increasing technical competence and digital literacy among others. Indian government initiated a number of steps to incorporate information technology (IT) tools in public institutions to increase transparency, remove middlemen, and minimize digital divide. Digital payment is one of the prominent applications of the ICT in the past couple of years due to some of the initiatives of government of India like demonetization, and digital India. However, around 67% of Indian Population still lives in rural areas and thereby it is imperative to understand the behavioral intention to use and its continuous usage of digital payments in rural population of India. This research attempts to develop a theoretical research framework by integrating psychological empowerment theory and the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) to explore and understand perception of rural population towards digital payments in Indian context. Researchers using structural equation modeling or other statistical models may test the proposed research framework. In this research framework, second order of empowerment construct is proposed, which is rarely available in the extant literature. The findings of this research will be useful to government agencies, financial institutions, mobile and telecommunications operators, and researchers. This paper is a working paper and intends to further test the theoretical model proposed as the ongoing work.

TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of corporate governance on the working capital management of Indian non-financial firms has been explored using balanced panel data procedures for a sample of 323 Indian non financial firms listed in the Bombay Stock Exchange for the period 2007-2017.
Abstract: The study explores the impact of corporate governance on the working capital management of Indian firms. The investigation has been performed using balanced panel data procedures for a sample of 323 Indian non-financial firms listed in the Bombay Stock Exchange for the period 2007-2017. Findings of our study indicate that the CEO duality, one of the nine board indicators play a role in improving the working capital management of the sample firms. The default tax payment of the legal indicator and the additional information disclosure of the proactive indicators also have an effect on the working capital management of the Indian non-financial firms. This study is unique as it reveals the impact of corporate governance on the working capital management of Indian non-financial firms.

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors examined how excess cash drives earnings management and firm value in China using a fixed effect panel regression on a sample of 12,629 observations covering 300 firms listed in the Shanghai Stock Exchange, and found that excess cash has a positive impact on firm value confirming pecking order theory.
Abstract: This study examines how excess cash drives earnings management and firm value in China. Using a fixed effect panel regression on a sample of 12,629 observations covering 300 firms listed in the Shanghai Stock Exchange, we find that excess cash has a positive impact on firm value confirming pecking order theory. Our results show that earnings management has a negative impact on firm value in China, which supports the efficient earnings management view. We find that managers in Chinese firms are less likely to use excess cash for manipulating earnings. We provide empirical evidence that firms with excess cash seem to use it more for precautionary purpose than earnings management and the excess corporate liquidity of Chinese firms is used for value-enhancing activities. The test of robustness using the Instrumental Variable (IV) model confirms the results of the study. Our study merges two areas of corporate finance by incorporating agency problems concerning earnings management and cash holdings

TL;DR: The major goal of the proposed model is to provide faster, more efficient real-time predictions and to enhance the reliability of the model by providing an iterative mechanism to handle concept drifts.
Abstract: Intrusion detection in networks is a challenging process, mainly due to huge amount of data and the imbalanced nature of the data. Further, the ever-changing transmission patterns introduce concept drift, which also exhibits a huge challenge. This work presents a heterogeneous ensemble based prediction model to detect anomalies in the network environment. The major goal of the proposed model is to provide faster, more efficient real-time predictions and to enhance the reliability of the model by providing an iterative mechanism to handle concept drifts. The ensemble is created using three varied base learners and the results are aggregated using a voting combiner to provide results. Decision tree, random forest, and gradient boosting trees are used as the base learners. The varied nature of the learners enables effective performances in models. Further reinforcement and an iterative training component is introduced into the model to handle concept drift. Experiments were performed on benchmark intrusion detection data and the results indicate the high performing nature of the model. Comparisons were performed with recent state-of-the-art models in literature and they indicate improved performances of the proposed model, indicating the high performing nature of the proposed ensemble model.

TL;DR: This research believes that the differences in the digital media capabilities of campaigners can influence the outcome of the campaign and examines this phenomenon with the help of Language Expectancy Theory and Elaboration Likelihood Model using data extracted from a large medical crowdfunding platform.
Abstract: The outcome of a crowdfunding campaign has been a topic of special interest for Information Systems (IS) researchers. Despite the success of crowdfunding platforms, there have been questions raised about their egalitarian nature in sharing the benefits across participants. Crowdfunding campaigns especially in philanthropic domains like medical crowdfunding are becoming popular in developing countries. Given the varying rates of success of these campaigns, it is imperative to understand if crowdfunding platforms are level playing fields for all kind of fundraisers. This ongoing research makes an effort to address this concern by examining how the disparities in digital capabilities influence the participation and therefore the outcome of crowdfunding campaigns. We believe that the differences in the digital media capabilities of campaigners can influence the outcome of the campaign. We examine this phenomenon with the help of Language Expectancy Theory and Elaboration Likelihood Model using data extracted from a large medical crowdfunding platform.
