TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured the equilibrium hydrogen pressure in Li-LiH and liquid LiH with dilute solutions of 2.0 x 10/sup -3/ to 1.3 x 10 /sup -2/ atomic ratio (H/Li) at temperatures between 200 and 450/sup 0/C.
Abstract: Equilibrium hydrogen pressures (P/sub H/sub 2//) were measured for the two-phase system, Li-LiH, for the liquid lithium of dilute solutions of 2.0 x 10/sup -3/ to 1.3 x 10/sup -2/ atomic ratio (H/Li), and for the liquid lithium controlled by a cold trap at temperatures between 200 and 450/sup 0/C. From the variation of P/sub H/sub 2// with temperature, the apparent heat of solution of hydrogen in liquid lithium was obtained as 34 and 19 kcal/mol for the Li-LiH and for the dilute solutions, respectively. For the liquid lithium controlled by the cold trap at 203/sup 0/C, the heat of solution was 19 kcal/mol. Using the Sieverts constant, which was obtained experimentally in this work, it was possible to determine the hydrogen concentration in liquid lithium from the P/sub H/sub 2//. The hydrogen-solubility in liquid lithium in the concentration <2 x 10/sup -2/ H/Li (corresponding to the temperature lower than 350/sup 0/C) was estimated from the hydrogen concentration data obtained through the P/sub H/sub 2// of the Li-LiH system. Although the cold trap could effectively control the hydrogen concentration in liquid lithium, this solubility was apparently lower than that obtained from the Li-LiH by factors of 2 to 3 atmore » the same temperature. The difference can be attributed to the interactions among hydrogen and other impurities and to compound formations such as Li/sub 2/H.« less

TL;DR: In this paper, it has been ascertained that the maximum pulsing with 4.67$ (=3.41%δk) brings peak reactor power of 21,100 MW and core energy release of 117 MW·sec.
Abstract: The NSRR programme is in progress in JAERI using a pulsed reactor to investigate fuel behaviors under the reactivity-initiated accident conditions. Pulsing characteristics and experimental capability, especially heat deposition in test fuel rods given by a single pulse are key parameters to this purpose. In pulsing performance tests, it has been ascertained that the maximum pulsing with 4.67$ (=3.41%δk) brings peak reactor power of 21,100 MW and core energy release of 117 MW·sec. The calculated time responses of reactor power, fuel temperature and cladding surface temperature as well as these maximum values at various pulse sizes agreed well with measured data. In addition, it has been also ascertained by measurement as well as analysis that there are no essential differences in pulsing characteristics between the pulsing from critical and that from subcritical. The heat deposition in a test fuel rod given by a single pulse is much enough as predicted, and a 2.6% enriched BWR type fuel rod gains about 230...

Abstract: The pressure-temperature phase diagram of (NH 4 ) 3 H(SO 4 ) 2 was studied by means of dielectric and differential thermal analysis measurements in a range of \(p{\lesssim}8.5\) kbar, –100°C \({\lesssim}T{\lesssim}\)150°C. The I-II transition point (140°C at 1 atm) linearly decreases with increasing hydrostatic pressure with a slope of -5.76 deg kbar -1 . The pressure dependence of the II-III transition point is expressed by a quadratic equatuon T c = T 0 c + K p +γ p 2 with parameters of T 0 c =-8.1^° C , K =-3.7 deg kbar -1 , and γ=-0.13 deg kbar -2 . Two pressure-induced ferroelectric phases (Phases VI, VII) are found above about 5 kbar. The II-III-VI triple point is found at p =7.0 kbar, T =-40.5^° C .

Abstract: The pressure-temperature phase diagram of ferroelectric NH 4 HSO 4 was studied by means of dielectric and differential thermal analysis (DTA) measurements in a pressure and temperature region of \(p{\lesssim}8\times10^{3}\) kg cm -2 , –120°C \({\lesssim}T{\lesssim}\)200°C. The high pressure phase found by Bridgman above about 1×10 3 kg cm -2 at room temperature is proven not to be identical with the low temperature non-ferroelectric phase (Phase III) at 1 atm. The liquidus line was newly determined by DTA. A new high pressure phase (Phase VI) was found above 4×10 3 kg cm -2 just below the melting point. A change in the order of the transition at the upper Curie point was found at about 0.6×10 3 kg cm -2 .

Abstract: The elastic after-effect of Mo single crystals with various orientations were measured after fast neutron irradiation at about 5 K. Two prominent relaxations were observed at 8 K and 26 K (at relaxation time ≈2 min). These two relaxations correspond, respectively, with the 12 K and 39 K peaks in previous high frequency experiments (at vibrational frequencies ≈500 Hz). The 26 K relaxation was found to be about 2.5 times larger in strength than that expected from the unstable 39 K peak observed in the high frequency measurements. The 8 K and 26 K relaxations annealed out in the recovery stages I (∼28 K) and IIa (∼42 K), respectively. Their dependence on irradiation fluence and orientation and their independence on pre-irradiation deformation and/or doping indicate that these relaxations are caused by intrinsic point defects, in good agreement with observations in the high frequency measurements. The origins of these two relaxations are considered to be a stress-induced rotation of free (110) split-...

Abstract: Radio-resistant red pigmented micrococci were propagated from radurized sawdust culture media of mushroom subjected to from 1.0 to 2.0 Mrad and stored for one month at 20°C. Three strains, H 48, H 54 and H 55, were isolated from different samples of sawdust media. Many of the characteristics of strains H 54 and H 55 were the same as those of Micrococcus radiodurans R1 isolated by Anderson et al. On the contrary, strain H 48 had some distinct characteristics such as small cell size, nitrate-reducing property, requirement of riboflavin with thiamine for growth and salt-torelance. The GC content of the DNA of these strains ranged from 65 to 67 moles %, and their cell wall peptidglycan contained ornithine type subunit to warrant their description as the species of Micrococcus radiodurans. The resistances to gamma-radiation of these isolates were the same as that of strain R1. However, the shape of survival curves differed among the strains. The curves of H 54 and H 55 were sigmoidal like that of strain R1, but...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the magnetic surface near a separatrix of a divertor and found that magnetic surfaces near the divertor can be destroyed by perturbations of magnetic fields brought from discrete structure of magnetic coils.
Abstract: The destruction of magnetic surfaces near a separatrix of a divertor is analyzed. Unperturbed magnetic surfaces formed by a plasma current and a divertor current are assumed. Destruction of magnetic surfaces is attributed to perturbations of magnetic fields, which are assumed to be brought from discrete structure of magnetic coils. Analysis is based on “Stochasticity” and a spread of divertor region is calculated in terms of a ripple of the magnetic field.

TL;DR: In this paper, pressure-volume-temperature (P-V-T) relations were studied for cis-1,4-polybutadiene, cis-l, 4-polyisoprene, and poly(styrene-butadienes) in the pressure range of 1 to 8000 kg/cm2 at 10 to 50°C.
Abstract: The pressure-volume-temperature (P-V-T) relations were studied for cis-1,4-polybutadiene, cis-l,4-polyisoprene, and poly(styrene-butadiene) in the pressure range of 1 to 8000 kg/cm2 at 10 to 50°C. The specific volume of cis-1,4-polybutadiene and cis-1,4-polyisoprene decreased with increasing pressure and abruptly decreased at a certain pressure (low-pressure break). Above this pressure, the specific volume decreased smoothly with increasing pressure and then decreased abruptly again (high-pressure break). The compressibilities below and above the low-pressure break were of the order of 10−5 (kg/cm2)−1 up to the high-pressure break. Above the high-pressure break, the compressibilities reduced to the order of 10−6 (kg/cm2)−1. The P-V isotherms for poly(styrenebutadiene) showed only the high pressure break. An abrupt increase in specific volume occurred in the isobaric measurements for cis-l,4-polyisoprene at a pressure and temperature corresponding to the high-pressure break in the isotherms. From ...
