The Greek Neolithic: A new review

Abstract: The Greek Neolithic, here divided into five phases, is the oldest in Europe. Geographically, it is the closest to the Near East and has thus long been seen as an impoverished derivative of the latter. However, recent research has tended to emphasize the autochthonous nature of Neolithic development in Europe, including Greece. The Greek Neolithic economy, which was based almost entirely on domesticates, and its densely packed, long-lived villages strongly recall the Near East, as do also the early emphasis on fine, decorated, nonculinary pottery and the wealth of figurines. On the other hand, the evolution of stylistic patterns is specifically Greek, although generally related to trends in the Balkans. Originality in the development of the Greek Neolithic is also seen in its latest phase, with apparent decreases, rather than increases, in site density, social differentiation, and, to some extent, long-distance trade. At the same time, however, the dichotomy became much sharper between the rich agricultural plains of northern Greece and the more pastoral(?) regions of the Peloponnese and Cycladic Islands; this presages similar contrasts during the Bronze Age.

Validité de construct de marqueurs des dimensions de personnalité du modèle en cinq facteurs

Abstract: La presente recherche vise d'une part a tester l'existence des dimensions de personnalite du « Big-Five » dans le contexte semantique et culturel francais, et d'autre part a valider un instrument de mesure de ces dimensions. Dans un premier temps sont passes en revue un ensemble d'elements de validite de construct de ce modele. L'examen de ces elements permet de conclure que ces dimensions ne sont pas des illusions cognitives mais des dimensions de personnalite. Sont ensuite presentes differents elements de la presente recherche visant l'etude de la validite de construct du modele en cinq facteurs dans le contexte francais. Cette recherche etablit nettement l'existence et la stabilite des dimensions du modele en cinq facteurs dans le contexte semantique et culturel francais.

Néel order versus spin liquid in quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnets on triangular and Kagomé lattices

Abstract: We have realized a thorough quantum mechanical analysis of an extensive number of low lying levels of the Heisenberg Hamiltonian on small periodic samples. Striking qualitative differences appear between the spectra of the triangular lattice and those of the Kagome lattice. Symmetries and finite size scaling of the low lying levels of the triangular antiferromagnetic point to an a la Neel symmetry breaking, and the dynamical structure factors corroborate this conclusion. The Kagome antiferromagnet spectra are qualitatively different: no signature of a symmetry breaking has been exhibited and the dynamical structure factors of the low lying levels display broad bands. The Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a Kagome lattice is a serious candidate for a spin liquid.

A Classical Model of Involuntary Unemployment: Efficiency Wages and Macroeconomic Policy

Abstract: A two period monetary overlapping generations model with efficiency wages is constructed, in which the workers' effort is unobservable and wage contracts verify an incentive compatibility constraint to prevent shirking. Its dynamics is similar to the one of a market clearing neoclassical model driven by intertemporal substitution effects, in which the labour supply curve would be replaced by a nonshirking condition. But normative properties of macroeconomic policies differ. In particular employment subsidies are welfare improving and the golden rule on real interest rates may not hold. Conditions for a transitory increase in public consumption to be welfare improving are also obtained.Journal of Economic LiteratureClassification Numbers: E24, E62, J41.

On the Support of a Skorohod Anticipating Stochastic Differential Equation

Abstract: This paper deals with an anticipating one-dimensional quasilinear stochastic differential equation of the Skorohod type. Some regularity properties of the solution are proved and we characterize the support of the law of the solution
