TL;DR: In this article, an exact boundary-layer solution of the governing equations for the ordinary water vapor, Freon-11 and mercury at normal boiling point was derived from numerical solutions for the normal water vapor and mercury, and it was found that nondimensional values of the film thickness, interfacial shear stress and interfacial velocity are directly affected by the surface temperature of the wall.
Abstract: Laminar film condensation of a saturated vapor in forced flow over a flat plate is analysed. The problem is formulated as an exact boundary-layer solution. From numerical solutions of the governing equations for the ordinary water vapor, Freon-11 and mercury at normal boiling point, it is found that nondimensional values of the film thickness, interfacial shear stress, interfacial velocity and condensation rate are directly affected by the surface temperature of the wall. For the strong condensation case (large CpΔT/Pr·hfg), it is found that the magnitude of the interfacial shear stress at the liquid-vapor interphase boundary is approximately equal to the momentum transferred by condensation, i.e., $$\tau _1 \approx \dot m''(U_0 - U_1 )$$ .

TL;DR: It is inferred that the treatment of fresh water fishes for longer than 30 seconds with liquid nitrogen is helpful to reduce the possibility of C. sinensis infection without alteration of the freshness and taste of fishes.
Abstract: The author investigated the larvicidal action of liquid nitrogen against the metacercariae of Clonorchis sinensis, with an observation on the freshness and change of taste in the flesh of fishes. The results obtained were as follows: The metacercariae in the flesh of Pseudorasbora parva, which were treated with liquid nitrogen (-192C), were not killed within 10 seconds, but completely killed over 30 seconds. In comparison, the metacercariae in the flesh of P. parva kept in a refrigerator (-12C) were killed only in 84 percent in 10-hour exposure group. The freezing speed of fishes by liquid nitrogen was 4 min. (') and 15 seconds(") for Cyprinus carpio, 1'22" for Carassius carassius and only 30", for Pseudorasbora parva. As for the freshness and taste of raw fresh water fishes, they were not deteriorated after the treatment with liquid nitrogen. In animal infection experiment of C. sinensis metacercariae after freezing, they were found not infective after they were treated with liquid nitrogen. From the results, it is inferred that the treatment of fresh water fishes for longer than 30 seconds with liquid nitrogen is helpful to reduce the possibility of C. sinensis infection without alteration of the freshness and taste of fishes.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that after chronic imipramine treatment the peripheral alpha 2-adrenoceptors respond with a decreased sensitivity to thealpha 2- adrenoceptor agonists, and moreover, this treatment produces an increased sensitivity of the central and peripheral alpha 1-ad Darrenoceptorceptors to the alpha 1/2 agonists.
Abstract: After chronic treatment with imipramine (20 mg/kg, i.p., twice daily for 14 days) the pressor dose-response curves to phenylephrine, methoxamine and cirazoline (alpha 1-adrenoceptor agonists) significantly shifted to the left with decreased PD50 values in pithed rats; however, the dose-response curve to Sgd 101/75, a selective alpha 1-adrenoceptor agonist was not affected. On the other hand, the alpha 2-adrenoceptor agonists such as B-HT 920, xylazine and clonidine produced a rightward shift for both the pressor (increased PD50) and cardioinhibition (increased ID50) dose-response curves in these rats. These results required treatment with imipramine over 2 weeks. Chronic treatment with imipramine has reduced the antagonism by prazosin of the pressor effect of phenylephrine when compared with the dose-ratios between the 2 groups. On the contrary, the antagonism by piperoxan of the cardioinhibitory effect of B-HT 920 was rather enhanced by the treatment, but that of the pressor effect of B-HT 920 was little changed. In cerebrocortical membrane fractions obtained from rats pretreated with imipramine, Ki of phenylephrine to displace [3H]prazosin was decreased, whereas that of clonidine and yohimbine to displace [3H]yohimbine was increased. In conclusion, it is demonstrated that after chronic imipramine treatment the peripheral alpha 2-adrenoceptors (both presynaptic and postsynaptic sites) as well as central alpha 2-adrenoceptors respond with a decreased sensitivity to the alpha 2-adrenoceptor agonists, and moreover, this treatment produces an increased sensitivity of the central and peripheral alpha 1-adrenoceptors to the alpha 1-adrenoceptor full agonists.

TL;DR: The authors investigated patterns of association between primary relationships (in both kinship and neighborhood relations) and social participation in voluntary associations in a Korean metropolitan city and derived two alternative hypotheses, that is, an incompatibility hypothesis and a reinforcement hypothesis.
Abstract: This article attempts to investigate patterns of association between primary relationships (in both kinship and neighborhood relations) and social participation in voluntary associations in a Korean metropolitan city. Two alternative hypotheses, that is, an incompatibility hypothesis positing a negative relation between primary relationships and social participation and a reinforcement hypothesis positing a positive relationship were derived. The data were collected from 1,047 households and housewives through self-administered questionnaires. Multiple regression analysis was applied to assess the hypotheses, controlling for 7 individual variables. The results lend strong support to the reinforcement hypothesis, indicating the positive influences of primary relationships on social participation. Finally, this article discusses some probable mechanisms underlying the findings in Korean urban contexts.

TL;DR: It can be concluded that it is possible to use pleural fluid ferritin levels as a tumor marker.
Abstract: In order to assess the usefulness of ferritin as a tumor marker, the authors measured and analyzed pleural fluid and serum ferritin concentrations by double antibody radioimmunoassay method in 20 patients with malignant pleural effusion, and in 39 patients with benign pleural effusion. Serum ferritin levels were also measured in a control group of 20 healthy people. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1) Pleural fluid ferritin levels in the malignant pleural effusion group were significantly higher (p<0.001) than those of the benign pleural effusion group. 2) As one of the criteria in differentiating between malignant and benign pleural effusion, the differentiating pleural fluid ferritin level was set at 2,000 ng/ml, a specificity up to 75.0% and sensitivity of 89.7% could be obtained. 3) Serum ferritin levels in the malignant pleural effusion group were significantly higher (p<0.001) than those in the control group. 4) There was no statistically significant correlation between pleural fluid and serum ferritin levels in the malignant pleural effusion group. From the above results, it can be concluded that it is possible to use pleural fluid ferritin levels as a tumor marker.

TL;DR: It is strongly suggested that Na substitution increases cellular Ca uptake and decreases the rate of45Ca efflux via a Na−Ca exchange mechanism.
Abstract: To get a better insight into the existence and the role of a Na−Ca exchange mechanisms in smooth muscle, the effect of Na substitution with sucrose on tension development, cellular Ca uptake and45Ca efflux was investigated using isolated cat ileal longtitudinal muscle strips. Experimental results were summarized as follows; 1) Exposure of the cat ileal longitudinal muscle to Na-free solution induced a contraction, and the magnitude of the contraction increased after incubation of the muscle strips with ouabain (2×10−5 M) for 1 hr. 2) Cellular Ca uptake in Na-free solution increasedin Na content of the Na-loading media, and a linear relationship existed between tissue Na content and cellular Ca uptake for 10 min. 3) After tissues were equilibrated in PSS containing45Ca for 2hr, cellular Ca uptake decreased with raising the external Na concentration. 4) Removal of medium Na or inhibition of the Na−K pump decreased the rate of45Ca efflux. These results strongly suggested that Na substitution increases cellular Ca uptake and decreases the rate of45Ca efflux via a Na−Ca exchange mechanism.

TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of condensation on the laminar flow at the entrance of a symmetrical two-dimensional channel is studied on the basis of the integrated equations of change by the approximate integral method.
Abstract: The influence of film condensation of a pure vapor on the laminar flow at the entrance of a symmetrical two-dimensional channel is studied on the basis of the integrated equations of change by the approximate integral method. As the condensation rate increases the vapor speed is drastically reduced which causes the inlet region to decrease in size. The reduction in vapor speed tends to support the growth of the vapor boundary layer in spite of the opposite effect of suction. The dependence of pressure, liquid film thickness, vapor bound-ary layer thickness and vapor quality is studied as a function of the streamwise coordinate and the condensation parameter,C pt (T s -T w )/(Pr·H fg ). Particular attention is paid to the influences of condensation on the interfacial shear stress, the temperature dependence of liquid viscosity and the orientation of the channel with respect to gravity.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors give representations of the solution of 1-dimensional stochastic differential equation (SDE) with reflecting barrieres, which can be expressed by the operator "sup inf" and depend on a reflecting Brownian motion determined by solving the deterministic Skorohod eqyation.
Abstract: In this paper we give representations of the solution of 1–dimensional stochastic differential equation (SDE for short) with reflecting barrieres. To this we construct the solution of deterministic Skorohod equation with two reflecting boundaries and show which can be expressed by the operator “sup inf”. Then the solution of given SDE can be represented by a form that depend on a reflecting Brownian motion determined by solving the deterministic Skorohod eqyation
