TL;DR: The transvestibular path has been considered part of the velocity storage mechanism or indirect path which, after the initial fast rise (direct path), provides the additional slower rise of OKN slow phase velocity to steady state values during prolonged stimulation.
Abstract: Neurons in the vestibular nuclei (Vn) have been shown in a variety of species to respond not only to vestibular but also to pure optokinetic stimuli, ie rotation of large visual patterns (cf ref Precht, 1981) Vestibular and optokinetic inputs are synergistic and expand the working range of Vn (Keller, Precht, 1979) In this context, the vestibular nuclei may be considered as an important premotor structure having direct and indirect access to ocular and spinal motoneurons At the behavioral level the importance of the transvestibular optokinetic path is stressed by the findings that optokinetic nystagmus (OKN) and afternystagmus (OKAN) are severely affected by bilateral (Cohen et al, 1973) and unilateral (Maioli et al, 1982) labyrinthectomies for long periods of time More specifically, the transvestibular path has been considered part of the velocity storage mechanism or indirect path which, after the initial fast rise (direct path), provides the additional slower rise of OKN slow phase velocity to steady state values during prolonged stimulation (Cohen, et al 1977)

TL;DR: The lipid composition of the viral membrane was unchanged whether the virus was propagated in vivo in larvae or in vitro in invertebrate cell cultures and was clearly different from that of the hosts.
Abstract: The Chilo Iridescent Virus (CIV) is a lipid-containing virus propagatedin vitro inChoristoneura fumiferana cell cultures. We have analysed the individual lipids of the viral membrane which appeared interesting in their relative amounts and mainly in the high proportion of phosphatidylinositol. This fraction represented about 27 per cent of the phospholipid extract. The lipid composition of the viral membrane was unchanged whether the virus was propagatedin vivo in larvae orin vitro in invertebrate cell cultures and was clearly different from that of the hosts.

TL;DR: It is shown that incubation of these reconstituted vesicles with different cell line cultures leads to the formation of syncytia and to a rapid shut-off of cellular RNA, DNA and protein syntheses.
Abstract: In order to reconstitute CIV membrane, we have solubilized with β-D-octylglucoside the external components of the viral particle. Electron micrographs of these extracts show the presence of vesicles 50 to 200 nm in size. Incubation of these reconstituted vesicles with different cell line cultures leads to the formation of syncytia and to a rapid shut-off of cellular RNA, DNA and protein syntheses.

TL;DR: In this paper, the 13C and 77Se NMR spectra of eight new unsubstituted biheterocycles containing a thiophene or selenophene ring condensed with an isothiazole or isoselenazole ring were recorded.
Abstract: The 13C and 77Se NMR spectra of eight new unsubstituted biheterocycles containing a thiophene or selenophene ring condensed with an isothiazole or isoselenazole ring were recorded. The assignments of the 13C signals were made by the examination of chemical shifts, 1J(CH) coupling constants and, for the quaternary carbons, on the basis of 1J(C, 77Se) coupling constants. The results are compared and discussed.

TL;DR: A subset X of the free monoid A ∗ is called a biprefix code if it is both a prefix code and a suffix code as mentioned in this paper, and it can be represented by a finite automation.
Abstract: A subset X of the free monoid A∗ is called a biprefix code if it is both a prefix code and a suffix code. We prove in this note that any finite biprefix code is contained in a miximal biprefix code which is recognizable by a finite automation.

TL;DR: Let x and y be two letters and m a fixed integer; a 'bayonet' is a word of the type x^iyx^i, i + j= where x is a letter and m is a number.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: A system of simple kinetic equations was proposed to express the metabolic, physical or chemical processes responsible for the in vivo time evolutions of the concentrations of electroactive species from which the time evolution of the electrode potential during the cultures was obtained and substantiated a theoretical correlation between the time evolution and the reductive activity of cultures.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The lag time necessary for the sudden shift of potential to appear at low (10 −5 M ) initial concentration of exogenic LA was decreased by simulating an increase of the reductive activity of cultures, and the slope of the potential-time curves at low and high initial concentration changed in opposition with the lag time.

TL;DR: Iridovirus type 6 induced a modification in the phospholipids of invertebrate cells early in the infection cycle by following the incorporation of radioactive phosphorus into the whole-cell phospholIPids and analysing the percentages of the different phosphorus components after viral infection.
Abstract: Summary Iridovirus type 6 induced a modification in the phospholipids of invertebrate cells early in the infection cycle. This was shown by following the incorporation of radioactive phosphorus into the whole-cell phospholipids and analysing the percentages of the different phospholipid components after viral infection. We compared the results obtained on different permissive and non-permissive invertebrate cell lines. These results showed, with the whole-cell cultures used, that the viral infection led to a decrease in the phosphorus incorporation into the cell phospholipids and to a stimulation of the cell phosphatidylcholine synthesis.

TL;DR: The N-terminus of Met-enkephalin is the same as β-endorphin, the C-fragment of β-lipotropin (β-LPH61n91) first isolated from sheep pituitary gland (Li et al., 1965).
Abstract: Following reports of the presence of endogenous opiate activity in the brain (Pasternak et al., 1975; Terenius and Wahlstrom, 1975), two pentapeptides (Met-enkephalin: H-Tyr-Gly-Gly-Phe-Met-OH; Leu-enkephalin: H-Tyr-Gly-Gly-Phe-Leu-OH) were isolated from porcine (Bradbury et al., 1976) and calf (Simantov and Snyder, 1976) brain and shown to possess high opiate agonist activity. The sequence of Met-enkephalin is the same as the N-terminus of β-endorphin, the C-fragment of β-lipotropin (β-LPH61n91) first isolated from sheep pituitary gland (Li et al., 1965). β-Endorphin has been isolated and characterized from camel pituitary glands (Li and Chung, 1976) as well as from many other species including the human, and shown to be an analgesic agent as measured by both in vitro (Bradbury et al., 1976; Cox et al., 1976; Li and Chung, 1976) and in vivo (Loh et al., 1976) methods.
