TL;DR: A multimycotoxin thin layer chromatographic method is described for the analysis of corn, and the following recoveries were obtained for corn samples: aflatoxin B1 71, ochratoxin A 87, and zearalenone 85.
Abstract: A multimycotoxin thin layer chromatographic method is described for the analysis of corn. Aflatoxins are extracted from the samples with acetonitrile-water, and sodium bicarbonate is added to separate the acidic ochratoxin from zearalenone and aflatoxin B1. After chloroform extraction, 1N NaOH is added to separate zearalenone and aflatoxin B1. The separated mycotoxins are spotted on TLC plates, which are then examined under ultraviolet light. The following recoveries (%) were obtained for corn samples: aflatoxin B1 71, ochratoxin A 87, and zearalenone 85. The limits of detection for the respective mycotoxins were 2, 40, and 200 ppb.

TL;DR: In this article, a new class of maps p : E → B between locally compact metric spaces called shape fibrations are defined in the spirit of the ANR-sequence approach to shape theory.
Abstract: The homotopy lifting property is not a very useful notion when applied to maps p : E → B between spaces with bad local properties. The approximate homotopy lifting property, introduced by D.S. Coram and P.F. Duvall, is useful only when E and B are ANR's. This paper introduces a new class of maps p : E → B between locally compact metric spaces called shape fibrations. Shape fibrations are defined in the spirit of the ANR-sequence approach to shape theory. It is shown that shape fibrations coincide with approximate fibrations whenever the base space and total space are ANR's. The following are typical results: 1. (i) fibers have the same shape whenever the base space is path connected, 2. (ii) any proper cell-like map between finite-dimensional locally compact metric spaces is a 3. shape fibration, and 4. (iii) the Taylor map is a cell-like map which fails to be a shape fibration.

TL;DR: Analysis of the frequencies in matings performed at different levels of HLA incompatibility between parents in 35 couples with recurrent abnormal pregnancies of unknown etiology revealed a high degree of wife husband compatibility of the antigens of the HLA--A locus, but not of the ants of theHLA--B locus.
Abstract: Women with recurrent abnormal pregnancies of unknown etiology—as compared with those with recurrent abnormal pregnancies of known etiology and with normal controls—had a significantly increased frequency of antigen HLA—A9 (corr. P < 0.01). Analysis of the frequencies in matings performed at different levels of HLA incompatibility between parents in 35 couples with recurrent abnormal pregnancies of unknown etiology revealed a high degree of wife husband compatibility of the antigens of the HLA—A locus, but not of the antigens of the HLA—B locus. These results indicate that the HLA chromosomal region may influence the reproductive efficiency and the fate of the fetus.

TL;DR: In this article, a modification and broadening of the basic Taylor expression, namely Taylor's linear theory, was proposed for the systems with a greater interelectrode distance.
Abstract: The transfer of mass onto a rotating cylindrical nickel electrode was investigated at relatively low rates. The simple electrochemical reaction of ferricyanide ion in an alkali medium was applied for this purpose. In the investigations particular attention was paid to the phenomenon of the penetration of eddies into the laminar sublayer. A modification and broadening of the basic Taylor expression, namely Taylor's linear theory, was proposed for the systems with a greater interelectrode distance. The experimental results can be better interpreted with a thus modified expression.

TL;DR: Patients with maturity onset diabetes treated with gliclazide were followed up for 6 months to 1 year to assess the effect on platelet adhesiveness and control of blood sugar.
Abstract: Gliclazide is an oral hypoglycaemic agent which has been shown in animal models to reduce platelet adhesiveness. In this study, 50 patients with maturity onset diabetes treated with gliclazide (80 mg/day) were followed up for 6 months to 1 year to assess the effect on platelet adhesiveness and control of blood sugar. A significant fall in mean platelet adhesiveness from 29% before treatment to 19.5% after 1 year (p less than 0.001) was achieved without any deleterious effect on normal haemostasis. The drug was well tolerated and achieved a satisfactory control of blood sugar levels at the dosages used.

TL;DR: Data indicate that stable, long-term chimerism of a specific class of lymphocytes is possible in nonirradiated, B-lymphocyte-deficient CBA/N mice.
Abstract: Nonirradiated B-lymphocyte-deficient CBA/N mice given T6T6 chromosome-marked normal CBA/CaHN spleen cells became lymphoid chimeras exhibiting donor-type mitoses. Normal CBA/CaHN recipients did not exhibit significant numbers of donor-type mitoses. The lymphoid cell chimerism in the CBA/N host appeared in spleen, lymph nodes, and Peyer's patches, but not in marrow or thymus. Stimulation of CBA/N-recipient spleen cells in vitro suggested that the chimerism involved donor T6T6 cells which were responsive to the B-lymphocyte mitogen, lipopolysaccharide, but not to the T-lymphocyte mitogen, phytohemagglutinin. These data indicate that stable, long-term chimerism of a specific class of lymphocytes is possible in nonirradiated, B-lymphocyte-deficient CBA/N mice.

TL;DR: In this article, the influence of water on the phase composition of aluminum hydroxides obtained by reaction of amalgamated aluminum with water has been studied, and the reaction was carried out in solutions of water and dioxane, and in sodium chloride solutions of different concentrations.
Abstract: The influence of the activity of water on the phase composition of aluminum hydroxides obtained by reaction of amalgamated aluminum with water has been studied. The reaction was carried out in solutions of water and dioxane, and in sodium chloride solutions of different concentrations; amorphous aluminum hydroxide was precipitated initially. The aging of this primary product to bayerite, pseudoboehmite, or an amorphous gel was controlled by the water content of the system. The pseudoboehmite has shown a significant reactivity when used as a source of alumina in the hydrothermal syntheses of kaolinite at relatively low temperature and pressure.

TL;DR: This article examined the Ginzburg-Landau model for the Peierls instability in HMTTF-TCNQ and showed that the three-dimensional ordering is dominated by the diagonal coupling between TCNQ chains in the alternating chain lattice.
Abstract: We examine the Ginzburg-Landau model for the Peierls instability in HMTTF-TCNQ and show that the three-dimensional ordering is dominated by the diagonal coupling between TCNQ chains in the alternating chain lattice. The transverse wave vector can be incommensurate and nearly constant in the wide temperature range below a common critical temperature (50 K) for both families of chains. We find that just below this temperature the ordering is dominated by the TCNQ chains, while the deformation of the HMTTF chains remains weak until about 43 K and then sharply increases. Thus we expect one phase transition temperature but two anomalies in physical properties. These results are consistent with the experimental observations of diffuse X-ray scattering, transport properties and specific heat.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluate the working relations between the sexes in the rural development of the SFR of Yugoslavia, and determine the productive role of farm women in Yugoslav agriculture.
Abstract: Summary The aim of this paper is to determine the productive role of farm women in Yugoslav agriculture, and to evaluate the working relations between the sexes in the rural development of the SFR of Yugoslavia. The general assumption is that the marginal social position of farm women, who represent a neglected resource of rural development, is a consequence of their having a specific occupation - farming - and living in a specific social milieu - rural communities - rather than of belonging to a certain sex. It is argued that women may, in relation to men, be in the functioning role of substitution, integration or competition in the labour force. The analysis of Agricultural Census data reveals that in socialist farming, women substitute for deagrarianised men. They appear in their competitive function (which is an exception) only through their participation in self-management bodies of farm cooperatives. In private farming, women again substitute for men employed in non-agricultural jobs. The labour force on part-time family farms is more feminised than on full-time farms. Farm women only appear in their competitive function when decisions are made which concern both family life and household investments, while farm production and farm sale decisions are reached by men.
