TL;DR: In this article, the cooling capabilities of an ethylene glycol (EG)-based nanofluid containing three different types of nanoparticles: copper oxide (CuO), aluminium oxide (Al2O3), and titanium dioxide (TiO2) are investigated.
Abstract: In this paper, the cooling capabilities of an ethylene glycol (EG)-based nanofluid containing three different types of nanoparticles: copper oxide (CuO), aluminium oxide (Al2O3), and titanium dioxide (TiO2) are investigated. Nanofluids have enhanced thermophysical properties, hence they can be used in a plethora mechanical and engineering applications such as nanofluid coolant: electronics cooling, vehicle cooling, transformer cooling, computers cooling and electronic devices cooling. A model depicting the vertical fluid flow in a radiator is formulated. Using appropriate similarity transformation and shooting quadrature coupled with Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg integration scheme, the model boundary value problem is tackled numerically. A parametric study of the entire flow regime is carried out to illustrate the effects of the pertinent parameters on the velocity, temperature, skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number. It is clear that CuO–EG nanofluids lead to a rapid decrease of temperature at the boundary layer.

TL;DR: In this article, a simulation of pressure-induced fracture in two-dimensional and three-dimensional fully saturated porous media is presented together with some peculiar features, such as a cohesive fracture model with a discrete crack and without predetermined fracture path.
Abstract: Simulation of pressure-induced fracture in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) fully saturated porous media is presented together with some peculiar features. A cohesive fracture model is adopted together with a discrete crack and without predetermined fracture path. The fracture is filled with interface elements which in the 2D case are quadrangular and triangular elements and in the 3D case are either tetrahedral or wedge elements. The Rankine criterion is used for fracture nucleation and advancement. In a 2D setting the fracture follows directly the direction normal to the maximum principal stress while in the 3D case the fracture follows the face of the element around the fracture tip closest to the normal direction of the maximum principal stress at the tip. The procedure requires continuous updating of the mesh around the crack tip to take into account the evolving geometry. The updated mesh is obtained by means of an efficient mesh generator based on Delaunay tessellation. The governing equations are written in the framework of porous media mechanics and are solved numerically in a fully coupled manner. Numerical examples dealing with well injection (constant inflow) in a geological setting and hydraulic fracture in 2D and 3D concrete dams (increasing pressure) conclude the paper. A counter-example involving thermomecanically driven fracture, also a coupled problem, is included as well. The examples highlight some peculiar features of hydraulic fracture propagation. In particular the adopted method is able to capture the hints of Self-Organized Criticality featured by hydraulic fracturing.

TL;DR: This research work focuses on the optimal design of a flow-mode magneto-rheological (MR) damper that can replace the conventional passive damper for a washing machine.
Abstract: It is well known that the vibration of washing machines is a challenging issue to be considered. This research work focuses on the optimal design of a flow-mode magneto-rheological (MR) damper that can replace the conventional passive damper for a washing machine. Firstly, rigid mode vibration of the washing machine due to an unbalanced mass is analyzed and an optimal positioning of the suppression system for the washing machine is considered. An MR damper configuration for the washer is then proposed considering available space for the system. The damping force of the MR damper is derived based on the Bingham rheological behavior of the MR fluid. An optimal design problem for the proposed MR brake is then constructed. The optimization is to minimize the damping coefficient of the MR damper while the maximum value of the damping force is kept being greater than a required value. An optimization procedure based on finite element analysis integrated with an optimization tool is employed to obtain optimal geometric dimensions of the MR damper. The optimal solution of the MR damper is then presented with remarkable discussions on its performance. The results are then validated by experimental works. Finally, conclusions on the research work are given and future works for development of the research is figured out.

TL;DR: In this paper, a well-recognized model of computer virus by Piqueira et al. is investigated through the Caputo and beta-derivatives through the extended model through the Laplace perturbation method and the homotopy decomposition technique.
Abstract: The concept of information science is inevitable in the human development as science and technology has become the driving force of all economics. The connection of one human being during epidemics is vital and can be studied using mathematical principles. In this study, a well-recognized model of computer virus by Piqueira et al. (J Comput Sci 1:31−34, 2005) and Piqueira and Araujo (Appl Math Comput 2(213):355−360, 2009) is investigated through the Caputo and beta-derivatives. A less detail of stability analysis was discussed on the extended model. The analytical solution of the extended model was solved via the Laplace perturbation method and the homotopy decomposition technique. The sequential summary of each of iteration method for the extend model was presented. Using the parameters in Piqueira and Araujo (Appl Math Comput 2(213):355−360, 2009), some numerical simulation results are presented.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the effect of double stratification on heat and mass transfer in an unsteady hydromagnetic boundary layer flow of a nanofluid over a flat surface.
Abstract: The focus of this work is to theoretically investigate the problem of double stratification on heat and mass transfer in an unsteady hydromagnetic boundary layer flow of a nanofluid over a flat surface. The model employed for the nanofluid transport equations incorporate the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis in the presence of thermal and solutal stratification. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations and their associated boundary conditions are initially transformed into dimensionless form by using similarity variables, before being solved numerically by employing the Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg fourth-order method with shooting technique. The effects of different controlling parameters, viz. solutal and thermal stratification, Lewis number, thermophoresis, Brownian motion, magnetic field and unsteadiness on the fluid velocity, temperature, skin friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number, and the local Sherwood number are graphically depicted and quantitatively discussed in detail taking into account the practical applications of each profile. It is noted that thermal stratification reduces the fluid temperature, while the solutal stratification reduces the nanoparticle concentration.
