TL;DR: A compact communication control module which interfaces household appliances with the Home Bus has also been developed as one of the key parts for the system.
Abstract: A Home Automation (HA) System based on the Home Bus system has been developed. The system has a multi-layered hierachical structure and is composed of four subsystems (the Room Monitor Control Subsystem, the Telephone Subsystem, the Tele-control Subsystem and the In-house Video Control Subsystem). The HA system has both three inner-subsystem communication codes and one inter-subsystem communication code. The former are optimized for each subsystem and the latter enables the HA system to have efficiently combined applications. A compact (48.6 x 31 x 4 mm) communication control module which interfaces household appliances with the Home Bus has also been developed as one of the key parts for the system.

Abstract: Teletext is rapidly becoming a household name in many countries in Europe. Its success is partly because it can provide instant information to anyone with a suitable decoder free of charge. In the UK, teletext services are financed either from the licence fee (Ceefax) or from advertising revenue (Oracle). Videotex systems such as Prestel make use of the public telephone network and are interactive and can be financed by charging the user directly. The user pays for the telephone connection, computer time and the information. These costs can be prohibitive particularly when terminals remain connected throughout the day.

Abstract: The television signals are sampled both spatially and temporally, i. e., the vertical domain of the image is quantized by scanning lines, while the temporal domain according to the time rate of the field alterations. In that consequence, parasitic specta are introduced in the sampled product, and in principle, a pre-filter and an interpolation filter based on sampling theory are necessarily called for to the faithful reproduction of original picture quality at the displays.

Abstract: Means like menu-techniques or so called help-files for simplifying the handling of various appliances have gained a firm footing in most fields of professional or semi-professional technology. Evidently this trend will extend even to the smallest microprocessor equipped professional device. Only in the field of consumer electronics, where even a timer controlled video cassette recorder has proven to be a technically very complicated machine, no realy drastic progress is visible. Instead extremely difficult to handle appliances which require large instruction manuals are still developed and marketed. Here a large number of switches and buttons dominate, though an intelligent application of the principles of "user-guidance" already known today would allow simple and self-explanatory control units.

TL;DR: It comes out, that progressive scan reproduction by field insertion techniques is superior with respect to still and moving picture areas and with respect of chrominance/luminance separation.
Abstract: In this paper some scanning and processing methods for flicker free high quality TV reproduction are compared with respect to picture quality. Among these methods-which have been already published-are progressive scan reproduction by either field insertion or temporal field interpolation and a frame repetition technique. It comes out, that progressive scan reproduction by field insertion techniques is superior with respect to still and moving picture areas and with respect of chrominance/luminance separation.

Abstract: In recent years, the home use portable color camera and the camera recorder (VTR equipped with camera) market is getting larger. This kind of camera requires to be more compact and light-weighted, and to have a higher quality picture. CCD Image Sensor allows the camera to be small-sized and light-weighted, providing many advantages, such as low image lag, low image burning, precise image geometry, high resistance for magnetic field and mechanical vibration or shock, high stability and long life. However, they have problems peculiar to a solid-state imager, such as aliasing, cross color and necessity of precise three dimensional opto-mechanical locating between lens and CCD imager. To resolve these, CCD Imaging Block are developed. This realizes highly reliable and compact and light-weighted imaging system with high picture quality.

Abstract: Conceptions for digital colour TV receivers open the way to substantially improved TV pictures. Utilizing field or frame store units, it will be possible to realize three-dimensional filters, which exploit special properties of PAL-or NTSC-signals for an efficient reduction of present disturbances [1]. These impairments, mainly caused by-cross effects between luminance and chrominance information-noise of various sources, and-flicker effects, can be completely eliminated for lots of picture contents. However, with special scene detail, this elimination is not sufficient, moreover, three-dimensional filtering will evoke additional disturbing effects, for an example blurring of edges. Therefore, an adaptively controlled use of these complex filters is necessary to avoid additional degradation and to achieve overall good performance.

Abstract: The restricted bandwidth of current transmission systems prevents improvement of the transmitted signals. High definition tv could help, but it is not yet available. Today, any improvements must therefore be made within the tv set. Abstract: Recently, rapid advances have been made in flat-panel displays, such as Liquid Crystal Displays, Plasma Displays, Electroluminescent Displays, Vacuum Fluorescent Displays and so on. Applications to flat TV displays have been seriously considered. No flat displays, however, can meet all the necessary requirement for TV displays, especially the color TV displays. Compared to conventional CRT displays, numerous problems still remain in regard to brightness, contrast, cosmetics, resolution, driving power, power consumption, cost performance and reliability.

Abstract: Damage due to electrostatic discharge (ESD) is one of the main causes of failure in the use of bipolar ICs. The principal failure mechanism is found to be short-circuiting of the B-E junction. A number of protection structures, realized with an 18V linear process, were characterized by testing them with a structure having a damage voltage, Vdam, lower than 400V. The Vdam of the protected structure is a good index of the quality of the protection structure and permits a comparison of the various solutions. Protection structures with Vdam in the range 3000V to 9000V are presented.

Abstract: This work describes a fast switching frequency synthesizer employing an adaptive second order phase locked loop whose damping ratio is taken as ??=0.707 while its natural frequency could be varied according to the step change in the division ratio of the programable counter to improve the switching time for large step change in the division ratio without degrading the noise rejection properties. The mathematical relationship which describes the behaviour of the system is carried out and the system is implemented assuming certain design values. The response of the system is obtained to show that the step change in the division ratio could be increased to ten times without skipping cycles in the loop.

Abstract: Parallel buses prove useful where large amounts of information must be moved quickly. Unfortunately, they require ICs with large pin counts and need several wires to interconnect the ICs. As a result, the printed circuit board tends to be large and modification of the board is also difficult. If two or more microcontrollers must share RAM, EEPROM or peripheral devices, the system complexity is further increased. Multiprocessing may be needed to provide extra computing power to execute several tasks simultaneously. In multiprocessing systems, a bus traffic cop (bus arbiter) is needed to prevent access collisions and bus contention problems.

Abstract: A high-photosensitivity and well-balanced color reproduction color imager with a monolithic microlens array was developed. The microlens array was formed on a 2/3-inch MOS color imager using a photolithographic technique with a transparent photoresist. The microlens array was arranged on the top of only the green portions of the mosaic filter (G-lens array) of the color imager. For an imager with a 2.0-um thick G-lens, the photosensitivity was raised 25% over the relative response of the green signal for an imager without a G-lens array, and the color image reproduced by the G-lens imager was better balanced than that of the original device.

System gain and emphasis are dynamically variable under control of a sophisticated companding algorithm; separate control bit-streams are generated for subsequent transmission to the decoder.
