Abstract: Global environmental issues are increasing due to the rapid developments in science and technology. To address these environmental issues there is a need to create awareness about environmental education among the masses. This can only be possible through teachers and teacher educators. It is assumed that science teachers are teaching environmental concepts as scientific facts, without creating awareness about environmental education. The ultimate purpose of this study was to explore the beliefs of a secondary science teacher about environmental education and how his stated beliefs matched with his classroom practices. The study was conducted in one of the co-operative schools of the Aga Khan University- Institute for Educational Development, in Karachi Pakistan and the sample for this study included one secondary science teacher. The research design was qualitative, which included multi-methods. The methods included semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, pre-post conferences, document analysis and the teacher’s teaching/learning stories. The study employed different data collection tools such as interview guidelines, a classroom observation checklist, teaching/learning stories and pre-post conference guideline questions. The findings of the study suggest that the research participant believed in teaching environmental education in a science classroom. He also believed that students should be given free choice to get involved in environmental activities such as environmental management projects in the real environment. However his enacted teacher centred classroom practice was contrary to his stated beliefs. Abstract: In order to help students acquire more knowledge and improve their skills, it is vital to understand motivation. It is not possible to expect unmotivated students to achieve their goals. Motivation is an indispensable reason in fostering student achievement. It should be noted that motivation has the key role in establishing a platform in which learning is permanent. Both extrinsic and intrinsic motivations have the potential to encourage students to strive for learning. Although the use of external rewards in the classroom has been criticized for diminishing intrinsic motivation of students, quite many studies suggest that the implementation of external rewards has no detrimental influence on students. Intrinsic motivation on the other hand enables students to work independently and enthusiastically. Abstract: Child Welfare Institutions (LKSA) are social organizations or associations that carry out social welfare which is formed by the community and is a legal entity based on national standards for childcare. This standard is part of an effort to encourage the transformation of the role of the orphanage and to position the institutions as alternatives in the childcare continuum for those who cannot be cared for in the main family, extended family, relatives, or substitute families. In line with this, the LKSA must function as a service center for children and their families. This is an effort to implement care and protection for children who are outside of family care and is a form of implementation of national legislation, both Law Number 4 of 1979 concerning Child Welfare and Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection, which governed the importance of parenting by parents and families; but this has not been fully fulfilled at the level of implementation. TL;DR: In this article, a system of interactive appropriation and alienation based on Marx's theory of alienation is presented, in which the intangible electronic memory volunteered by telecommunication customers, who may risk Internet addiction, is a free byproduct of the system of appropriation exchanged for alienation, which is in a transitional mode.
Abstract: Marx’s alienation, dialectical materialism and stratification theory, provides a lens through which to explore an explosion of statistical studies regarding on-line interaction and possible Internet addiction (IA). Acclaimed authors Turkle, Greenwald and Foer, warn that consumer interaction in the digital world has risks that can be countered by individual responsibility and action. Their claims are juxtaposed to what ordinary, individual, cell phone and social media users self-report en masse about their on-line experience, documented in thousands of statistical and empirical studies. Marx’s Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844 and Marx’s Theory of Alienation by Mészáros are used to explore what alienation looks like in a perpetuum mobile world. The analysis melds Marx’s alienation theory to findings, presenting a Marx inspired system of interactive appropriation and alienation. Regardless of how Internet users experience social media; or differing interpretations of addiction; or how researchers study internet usage; one undisputable fact emerges: this electronically mediated mode of production appropriates wealth from Internet users to enrich what appears to be a 1% class of telecommunication industry owners. Other conclusions are: Marx’s theories apply in a non-Machine epoch context, in which: the intangible electronic memory volunteered by telecommunication customers, who may risk Internet addiction (IA), is a free by-product of a system of appropriation exchanged for alienation, which is in a transitional mode, representing potential future surplus value. Given this, IA might help increase telecommunication industry profits, government contracts, money hoarding and turn over. The presuppositions of the paper are: 1) on-line communication is, according to statistics, normal, pervasive and potentially addictive; 2) statistical studies are a scientific cornerstone of sociological research; 3) studies discussed may, or may not, honestly represent what ordinary users of social media report; 4) Marx’s theories and methods are part of sociology’s cannon and 5) Internet addiction (IA) is considered a global problem, although it lacks official medical etiology and researchers across disciplines (communication, psychology, medicine, to name a few) disagree about what causes it.

Another aspect is imagery, illustrated through perceptions, cognitions, motivations, and attitudes that take place in individual consumers. Another aspect of globalization, the discourse of globalization as a process characterized by the rapid development of science, information technology, and telecommunications will be able to change the world fundamentally. Besides Maslow's hierarchy of needs is an interpretation of the level of human needs represented in the form of a pyramid with a more basic need at the bottom. Abstract: This research was focused on reviewing the post-divorce Hindu women’s regarding socio-cultural pressure in Denpasar city. The analysis results found that the high dominance of the patrilineal culture caused Hindu women to experience social and cultural pressure after the divorce. An oblique labeling was often related to Hindu women after a divorce due to patrilineal culture dominance. The field findings indicated the fact that the divorce rate was increasing. The number who were widowed also increasing. Even those who were widowed classified as young due to they were early marriage. The pressure on socio-cultural after the divorce included first, the dominance of the patriarchal culture that was still strong in Bali. The men (purusa) have a strategic position in Balinese culture. This can be seen from people’s view of the men rather than women. In this case, the decision-making authority was still on the husband. Second, having to accept social stigma, Hindu women who are experiencing divorce will also be faced with a more religious stigma. A divorce in religion was actually not permitted, due to marriage was a very sacred procession. This causes divorce to be considered a family disgrace. However, the bad stigma was more predominantly directed at women, not men. Third, the social-cultural pressure for the Hindu women can be seen from the lack of protection and protection provided by traditional institutions in Bali, whether in village regulations (awig-awig) towards Hindu women, resulting in divorce cases increase.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide empirical proof of the lack of validity of the Masculinity index to compare national cultures, recommend abandoning the MAS index and instead using alternative instruments of gender equalitarianism.
Abstract: This article aims to review the coherence of the definition of the Masculinity Index, one of the most cited dimensions in cross-cultural management. The study challenges the claims supporting the design, the definition and ultimately the validity of the Masculinity Index that are the basis of it applications in management theory and practice. The paper is based on the empirical analysis of the MAS index utilizing a standard quantitative approach. The authors ran cross-section regressions with control variables for the applications of the index that could be quantified: According to Hofstede, high MAS Index countries have relatively higher defence spending, a relatively lower aid spending on poor countries, less gender equality at work and have higher share of women teaching small children and a lower share of women teaching at universities. The analysis did not validate those claims and therefore the hypothesis of the Masculinity index. The authors provide empirical proof of the lack of validity of the MAS index to compare national cultures, recommend abandoning the MAS index and instead using alternative instruments of gender equalitarianism.
