TL;DR: Subsequent booster doses of vaccine stimulated increased production of HA antibody, which persisted longer with each successive dose, which meant that individuals developing an HA antibody titer of 1:128 or greater had MPI values of 10 or less.
Abstract: : Twenty-nine volunteers were administered a basic inoculation and two booster doses of plague vaccine. Reactogenicity was determined following each dose of vaccine, and sera for serological tests were collected at selected intervals over a period of 390 days. The vaccine was found to be of low reactogenicity. Thirty days after the initial dose of vaccine, 86 per cent of the subjects produced detectable HA antibodies. Subsequent booster doses of vaccine stimulated increased production of HA antibody, which persisted longer with each successive dose. Individuals developing an HA antibody titer of 1:128 or greater had MPI values of 10 or less. CF antibody in low titer developed following the first and second booster doses of vaccine in 19 per cent and 17 per cent.

TL;DR: The study undertaken in black Americans in Vietnam to determine whether G-6-PD deficiency has any influence on malarial incidence or the clinical severity of malarial infections suggested that G- 6-PD deficient males might have milder cases of malaria, or even have an overall lower incidence of malaria infection.
Abstract: : Although the sickle-cell gene in Negro populations has been proven to confer resistance to malarial infection, other genetic markers occurring predominantly in Negroes, including glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency, have not been shown to be associated with a lower incidence of Malaria. Human females heterozygous for G-6-PD deficiency, which is a sex-linked gene, have a mosaicism of red cells, and those cells deficient in G-6-PD were shown less likely to harbor P. falciparum parasites during an infection. This suggests that G-6-PD deficient males when compared with G-6-PD normal males might have milder cases of malaria, or perhaps even have an overall lower incidence of malaria infection. The study was undertaken in black Americans in Vietnam to determine whether G-6-PD deficiency has any influence on malarial incidence or the clinical severity of malarial infections.

TL;DR: The paradox observed in this series between positive urinalasis and negative urine cultures may be explained by anaerobic and microaerophilic forms of the usual urinary pathogenic bacteria.
Abstract: The treatment experience of 52 military personnel in Viet Nam who had their 1st episode of acute epididymitis during a 9-month period in 1970-71 is reviewed. 75% of the patients were ages 18-30. The right side was involved in 48.1% of cases and the left in 44.2%; the remaining 7 cases showed bilateral involvement. Urine analysis revealed pyuria in 36 patients (69.2%). White blood cells in urine were too numerous to count in 20 patients (38.5%). Urine cultures were negative in all but 1 case. The patients were hospitalized a median number of 9 days. The therapeutic regimen consisted of absolute bed rest elevation of the scrotum and ice to the scrotum until tenderness disappeared. Tetracycline was generally administered. 28 patients showed no obvious factor related to the etiology or pathogenesis of the epididymitis; however 3 had gonorrheal urethritis on admission 7 had had gonorrhea within 8 weeks of admission 4 had had nongonococcal urethritis within the prior 8 weeks and 6 had acute or subacute prostatitis on admission. The paradox observed in this series between positive urinalasis and negative urine cultures may be explained by anaerobic and microaerophilic forms of the usual urinary pathogenic bacteria. The frequency of recovery of pathogenic bacteria has been shown to be enhanced when anaerobic and microaerophilic cultures are performed. Antibiotics thus assume an important role in the treatment of acute epididymitis even if urine cultures are negative by the usual methods. Further research is needed to confirm this hypothesis.
