Abstract: What do you do to start reading assessing service quality satisfying the expectations of library customers third edition? Searching the book that you love to read first or find an interesting book that will make you want to read? Everybody has difference with their reason of reading a book. Actuary, reading habit must be from earlier. Many people may be love to read, but not a book. It's not fault. Someone will be bored to open the thick book with small words to read. TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue that textbooks and course reserves have traditionally been excluded from the majority of academic and research libraries' collection-development policies and encourage libraries to re-evaluate and re-strategize this traditional approach to textbook purchasing and course reserve expansion.
Abstract: With the rising costs of textbooks, their affordability and accessibility in college and university campuses has emerged as a major financial obstacle for students. This challenge presents an opportunity for academic and research libraries in providing access to textbooks quickly without further straining student financial resources. Textbooks and purchases for course reserves have traditionally been excluded from the majority of academic and research libraries' collection-development policies. Encouraging libraries to re-evaluate and re-strategize this traditional approach to textbook purchasing and course reserves is critical. Embracing more textbooks and expanding the course reserves has the potential to significantly improve user services in learning and teaching across campuses. Ultimately, this evolving role for academic libraries provides another opportunity to demonstrate their value to campus administration and communities.

TL;DR: In this paper, the interlibrary loan, acquisitions, and course reserve departments developed a new data-driven project to provide students access to required course materials through patron-driven acquisition and cross-departmental collaboration.
Abstract: At the University of Minnesota Libraries, the interlibrary loan, acquisitions, and course reserve departments developed a new, data-driven project to provide students access to required course materials through patron-driven acquisition and cross-departmental collaboration. Item usage and student cost-savings data were collected throughout the project. During the spring 2015 semester, a survey was distributed to students across various disciplines affected by the project. Intended to measure the pilot project's success, the data and survey also yielded compelling evidence that academic libraries can best serve student needs by purchasing multiple user ebooks of required materials and promoting their availability.

TL;DR: The College of New Jersey Library investigated the possibility of expediting ILL fill for monographs by taking advantage of the speed afforded by ebook fulfillment and the attractive pricing of short-term leases of ebooks.
Abstract: Advances in technology and cooperative structures have had a dramatic effect on the speed of ILL fulfillment for articles, but because of physical limitations, ILL fill speed for monographs has lagged. Having successfully improved ILL fill speed for journal articles by introducing ILLiad and RapidILL, The College of New Jersey Library investigated the possibility of expediting ILL fill for monographs by taking advantage of the speed afforded by ebook fulfillment and the attractive pricing of short-term leases of ebooks. This necessitated an assessment of the scale of ebook equivalents and the creation of new internal workflows in close consultation with our ebook vendor.

TL;DR: A series of pilot projects involving staff from access services, acquisitions, and collection development to purchase interlibrary loan requests of print books, ebooks, and articles found the library was able to purchase titles and get them to the patron more quickly than through traditional inter library loan.
Abstract: The University of California Irvine Libraries conducted a series of pilot projects involving staff from access services, acquisitions, and collection development to purchase interlibrary loan requests of print books, ebooks, and articles. Staff measured the cost of interlibrary loan services and the time to delivery and improved the workflow through existing technology. In many cases, the library was able to purchase titles and get them to the patron more quickly than through traditional interlibrary loan. This purchasing service is now part of The University of California Irvine normal library procedures.

TL;DR: Batch cataloging, or the editing and importing of large batches of vendor-supplied records into the catalog, is increasingly popular, despite any challenges it presents, and when implementing batch processes it is important to consider the effect on cataloger morale.
Abstract: In 2013, the Kennesaw State University Library System's Technical Services Department conducted a workflow analysis project. Following this workflow analysis project, the department implemented batch processes, beginning with the batch cataloging of e-books in 2014. Batch cataloging, or the editing and importing of large batches of vendor-supplied records into the catalog, is increasingly popular, despite any challenges it presents. When implementing batch processes, it is important to consider the effect on cataloger morale, the tools required for maintaining quality control, methods of increasing staff comfort with newly required skillsets, and the ability to maintain thorough and accurate documentation.

TL;DR: The issues raised by respondents suggested that Cataloging and Metadata Services should take a more proactive approach to communication with Public Services and indicated the need for further research.
Abstract: Personnel in Public Services and in Cataloging and Metadata Services were surveyed to determine how they rated the importance of various cataloging services, and to gauge their satisfaction with these services. The two groups differed in the importance and satisfaction scores that they assigned to certain cataloging services. The issues raised by respondents suggested that Cataloging and Metadata Services should take a more proactive approach to communication with Public Services and indicated the need for further research.

TL;DR: At the University of Central Florida, the Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Service Department teamed up with the Acquisitions and Cataloging departments to develop projects that support all library departments, staff, and patrons.
Abstract: Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Service departments sit on a wealth of information that can be beneficial to other library departments. Statistics are studied to find ways to improve the fill rate, decrease the number of NO's to either the requesting patron or the requesting library, which can show us where we can improve our services and potentially what additional skills or training staff could use. At the University of Central Florida, the Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Service Department teamed up with the Acquisitions and Cataloging departments to develop projects that support all library departments, staff, and patrons.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Challenges in Resource, Description, and Access implementation in a small academic library are examined and how to overcome them with training, practice, and time is examined.
Abstract: The new cataloging standard, Resource, Description, and Access, has forced many libraries to rethink how metadata is displayed and accessed. Although Resource, Description, and Access implementation may seem daunting at first, especially for small libraries with shrinking staff and budgets, implementation provides an excellent opportunity to re-evaluate legacy workflows and work collaboratively as a group to develop policies and procedures that will ultimately help the library become more responsive to change. In this article the author examines these challenges in a small academic library and how to overcome them with training, practice, and time. Both general and specific guidelines are discussed for Resource, Description, and Access implementation in the small academic library.

TL;DR: In this paper, the importance of bringing technical service support to the forefront of planning major shifts in library collections or services and discusses the impact innovative technical services work can have in reshaping the library landscape.
Abstract: This article demonstrates the importance of bringing technical service support to the forefront of planning major shifts in library collections or services and discusses the impact innovative technical services work can have in reshaping the library landscape. Though technical service work is often performed outside of public view, and, in fact, is often overlooked as the resource it can be within the library, the potential is there for technical services to provide invaluable support in adopting new programs and services in direct support of patron needs and campus priorities. Several examples of recent initiatives are used as case studies to illustrate these points.

TL;DR: As library services shift from a transactional to a transformational approach, the role of technical services is also changing from problem solver to solution creator.
Abstract: As library services shift from a transactional to a transformational approach, the role of technical services is also changing from problem solver to solution creator. Solution creators recognize patterns, anticipate needs, and focus on skill sets and ability. It is a holistic approach that emphasizes creativity and innovation. By focusing on “what if” and the open exchange of ideas, leaders create a learning environment that encourages a growth mindset with a belief in potential. Individuals have the freedom to explore, question, and seek alternative solutions. Solution creators possess a combination of soft skills and technical ability, who contribute to the library's role of content creator.
