TLDR
Under the conditions of the study outlined above, 22 patients with bronchiolitis treated with corticosteroids did not show any statistically significant difference from an equal number of patients treated with a placebo.
Abstract
Under the conditions of the study outlined above, 22 patients with bronchiolitis treated with corticosteroids did not show any statistically significant difference from an equal number of patients treated with a placebo. This included hospital course, 2-week or 4-week follow-up, as judged by clinical, radiological, and biochemical means. There was no evidence that the patients on steroids had a less favorable course or outcome. There were no complications or deaths in the entire study. The use of uniform criteriae for diagnosis and follow-up of these patients is discussed. A bronchiolitis scoring system is suggested.

Glucocorticoids for acute viral bronchiolitis in infants and young children.

TL;DR: Current evidence does not support a clinically relevant effect of systemic or inhaled glucocorticoids on admissions or length of hospitalisation, but combined dexamethasone and epinephrine may reduce outpatient admissions, but results are exploratory and safety data limited.

Dexamethasone and Salbutamol in the Treatment of Acute Wheezing in Infants

TL;DR: Combined salbutamol-dexamethasone treatment resulted in more than twice the rate of improvement of the other treatments, and a potentiating effect of corticosteroids on the beta-adrenergic responsiveness is a possible explanation for this combined treatment in the management of acute wheezing in infancy.

Pediatric Investigators Collaborative Network on Infections in Canada (PICNIC) study of admission and management variation in patients hospitalized with respiratory syncytial viral lower respiratory tract infection

TL;DR: Differences exist among tertiary pediatric hospitals in the nature of the patients admitted with RSV LRI, and randomized clinical trials are needed to determine the efficacy of different drug treatments used to treat infants hospitalized with RSv.
