TLDR
The measure of category clustering proposed by Bousfleld et al. as discussed by the authors was modified to take into account differences in the distribution of the expected value of number of repetitions.
Abstract
The measure of category clustering proposed by Bousfleld & Bousfleld (1966) was modified to take into account differences in the distribution of the expected value of number of repetitions. The possible effects of using the clustering index without this major modification are discussed.

Memory for mode of input

TL;DR: This article examined the retention of information about mode of input of familiar words and found that between-modality distinction was more effective than the within-modal distinctions, all three studies produced similar results: free recall revealed clustering by modes of input, and the final test showed that inputmode information was retained for several minutes after presentation.

A general measure of organization in free recall for variable unit size and internal sequential consistency

TL;DR: In this paper, a general procedure that can be applied to any type of free recall data for the quantitative measurement of subjective organization intertrial repetitions (ITRs) is described, and the application of this procedure and the corresponding expected value formula to four distinct data measurement cases is described.

In search of the M-Gram: The structure of organization in free recall

TL;DR: This paper reviews three major classes of structural models of episodic and semantic memory which have been proposed to describe the organization of permanent memory, and presents a method for extracting representations of memory structure using output order information from a free recall learning task.

Free recall of taxonomically and alphabetically organized word lists as a function of storage and retrieval cues

TL;DR: In this article, a group of 128 Ss each learned a 40-word free-recall list containing 5 words representing each of eight taxonomic categories and beginning with each of 8 first letters, followed by additional recall and transfer tests.

Measurement of clustering and of sequential constancies in repeated free recall.

TL;DR: An operational version of Underwood's distinction between response recall and associative hook-up is applied to the analysis of sequences of freely recalled items for the assessment of clustering and the development of constancies in the sequential ordering of successive free recalls of given stimulus items.

Priority of free recall of newly learned items

TL;DR: This paper showed that newly learned items tend to be recalled prior to those items which have been recalled correctly on previous trials, in contrast with the widespread assumption that order of free recall directly reflects item strength.
