TLDR
In this article, a new multiaxial fatigue parameter for in-phase and out-of-phase straining is proposed, which is the sum of the normal energy range and the shear energy range calculated for the critical plane on which the stress and strain Mohr's circles are the largest during the loading and unloading parts of a cycle.

A Review of Critical Plane Orientations in Multiaxial Fatigue Failure Criteria of Metallic Materials

TL;DR: A review of multiaxial fatigue failure failure criteria based on the critical plane concept is presented in this paper, where the criteria have been divided into three groups according to the fatigue damage parameter used in the criterion, i.e. (i) stress, (ii) strain and (iii) strain energy density criteria.

Life prediction of rolling contact fatigue crack initiation

TL;DR: In this article, a strategy developed for fatigue life prediction of rolling contact fatigue (RCF) crack initiation is presented, which combines elastic-plastic finite element (FE) analyses, multiaxial fatigue crack initiation models used together with the critical plane concept, fatigue damage summation calculations, and comparison of results from numerical analyses and experiments.

A critical review on multiaxial fatigue assessments of metals

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors classified multiaxial fatigue analysis into five viewpoints, i.e. empriical formulas and modifications of the Coffin-Manson equation, application of stress or strain invariants, use of the space averages of stress and strain, critical plane approaches, and use of energy which has accumulated on the materials.

A New Approach to the Evaluation of Fatigue Under Multiaxial Loadings

TL;DR: In this paper, a new approach to the evaluation of fatigue under these loadings is proposed based upon the idea of relating fatigue life to the plastic work during a cycle of the loading.
