A routine stain used for determining differential count of leucocytes (Diff-Quik stain) was evaluated against the standard Papanicolaou stain, finding no significant differences when comparing the two staining methods.Abstract:
The evaluation of sperm morphology is still an important parameter in the diagnosis of the infertile male. Most techniques used for staining human sperm are very time-consuming. A routine stain used for determining differential count of leucocytes (Diff-Quik stain) was evaluated against the standard Papanicolaou stain. Morphology results from 20 duplicate semen smears using both staining methods were determined separately by 2 technicians using a blind protocol. No significant differences were observed when comparing the two staining methods (paired Student's t-test). The advantages of the Diff-Quik stain are: a) complete staining-to-reading time under 7 min, b) commercially prepared reagents, and c) case of staining procedure.read more

TL;DR: By evaluating sperm morphology with the proposed strict criteria, its predictive value in in vitro fertilization is enhanced.

Treatment outcome after varicocelectomy. A critical analysis.
TL;DR: It is clear that a definitive statement concerning the efficacy of varicocelectomy cannot be made, and this therapeutic dilemma can be resolved only by a well-designed prospective, randomized, controlled study that examines the impact of varicectomy on seminal parameters, sperm function tests, and the pregnancy rates in couples evaluated by stringent protocols.

Differences in nuclear DNA fragmentation and mitochondrial integrity of semen and prepared human spermatozoa
TL;DR: The aim of this study was to determine sperm nuclear DNA integrity and mitochondrial function, to quantify possible apoptosis and to investigate any relationship between these parameters.

Proteomic identification of human sperm proteins
TL;DR: The present data provide an important clue towards determining the function of the proteins extracted from human normozoospermic spermatozoa and opens the possibility to perform additional experiments.

TL;DR: As a single parameter, decreased number of normal forms appears to be a good indicator for clinical infertility if in vitro fertilization testing is not available.
