This work proposes an approach which is able to identify the semantically correct presentations by composing Elementary Presentation Types corresponding to data attributes.
Abstract
The problem of presenting database query results has not sufficiently been investigated. The purpose of this work is to propose an approach which is able to identify the semantically correct presentations by composing Elementary Presentation Types corresponding to data attributes. Some effectiveness critcria are considered in order to identify those presentations which best match the user's goals and cognitive abilities.

VIRGILIO - The Metaphor Definition Tool

TL;DR: The overall Virgilio architecture is presented, a brief introduction to the concept of metaphor and its use within the Virilio environment is provided, and a description of the MDT as well as a description the repositories are described and how to integrate theMDT into the whole system is explained.

Study of result presentation and interaction for aggregated search

TL;DR: Results from the study suggested that the effect of the source-orientation was a significant factor in an aggregated search scenario, hence adding another dimension to the relevance space within the aggregatedsearch scenario.

Uniform hypertext presentations on the World Wide Web

TL;DR: The system proposed, Hypertext Presentation System (HPS), can generate HTML documents on the basis of documents in ASCII format to provide uniform presentation modalities for semantically similar documents, even if these come from different sources.

The entity-relationship model: toward a unified view of data

TL;DR: A data model, called the entity-relationship model, is proposed that incorporates some of the important semantic information about the real world and can be used as a basis for unification of different views of data: the network model, the relational model, and the entity set model.

A relational model of data for large shared data banks

TL;DR: In this article, a model based on n-ary relations, a normal form for data base relations, and the concept of a universal data sublanguage are introduced, and certain operations on relations are discussed and applied to the problems of redundancy and consistency in the user's model.

The entity-relationship model: toward a unified view of data

TL;DR: A data model, called the entity-relationship model, which incorporates the semantic information in the real world is proposed, and a special diagramatic technique is introduced for exhibiting entities and relationships.

Automating the design of graphical presentations of relational information

TL;DR: APT as discussed by the authors is an application-independent presentation tool that automatically designs effective graphical presentations (such as bar charts, scatter plots, and connected graphs) of relational information, based on the view that graphical presentations are sentences of graphical languages.

Visual information seeking: tight coupling of dynamic query filters with starfield displays

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose new principles for visual information seeking (VIS), which are distinguished from familiar query composition and information retrieval because of its emphasis on rapid filtering to reduce result sets, progressive refinement of search parameters, continuous reformulation of goals, and visual scanning to identify results.
