We study the large-N gauged quantum mecchanics for a single hermitean matrix in the Harmonic oscillator potential well as a toy model for the AdS/CFT correspondence We argue that the dual geometry should be a string in two dimensions with a curvature of stringy size Even though the dual geometry is not weakly curved, one can still gain knowledge of the system from a detailed study of the open-closed string duality We give a mapping between the basis of states made of traces (closed strings) and the eigenvalues of the matrix (D-brane picture) in terms of Schur polynomials This is interpreted as an exact open-closed duality We connect this model with a decoupling limit of = 4 SYM and the study of giant gravitons in AdS5 ? S5 We show that the two giant gravitons that expand along AdS5 and S5 can be interpreted in the matrix model as taking an eigenvalue from the Fermi sea and exciting it very much, or as making a hole in the Fermi sea respectively This is similar to recent studies of the c = 1 string This connection gives new insight on how to perform calculations for giant gravitonsread more

Bubbling AdS space and 1/2 BPS geometries
TL;DR: In this article, all 1/2 BPS excitations of AdS × S configurations in both type-IIB string theory and M-theory are considered and a large class of explicit solutions are presented.

The dilatation operator of conformal N=4 super-Yang–Mills theory
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the dilatation operator can be simplified, systematized and extended by focusing on the theory's one-loop structure, and they show that this integrability can be extended to all loops, with intriguing consequences for gauge theory.

Counting chiral primaries in N=1, d=4 superconformal field theories
TL;DR: In this article, the authors derived a procedure to count chiral primary states in N = 1 superconformal field theories in four dimensions, and the chiral primaries are counted by putting the N =1 field theory on S 3 × R.

ABJM theory as a Fermi gas
Marcos Marino,Pavel Putrov +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a method to study these models in the M-theory limit, but at all orders in the 1/N expansion, based on reformulating the matrix model as the partition function of an ideal Fermi gas with a non-trivial one-particle quantum Hamiltonian.

The library of Babel: on the origin of gravitational thermodynamics
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that heavy pure states of gravity can appear to be mixed states to almost all probes and that universal low-energy effective description of a foam of given global charges is via certain singular spacetime geometries.

The Large N limit of superconformal field theories and supergravity
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the large-N limits of certain conformal field theories in various dimensions include in their Hilbert space a sector describing supergravityon the product of anti-de Sitter spacetimes, spheres, and other compact manifolds.

Gauge Theory Correlators from Non-Critical String Theory
TL;DR: In this paper, a boundary of the anti-deSitter space analogous to a cut-off on the Liouville coordinate of the two-dimensional string theory is introduced to obtain certain Green's functions in 3+1-dimensional N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with a large number of colors via non-critical string theory.

Anti de sitter space and holography
TL;DR: In this article, a correspondence between conformal field theory observables and those of supergravity was proposed, where correlation functions in conformal fields are given by the dependence of the supergravity action on the asymptotic behavior at infinity.

A planar diagram theory for strong interactions
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that only planar diagrams with the quarks at the edges dominate; the topological structure of the perturbation series in 1/N is identical to that of the dual models, such that the number 1/n corresponds to the dual coupling constant.
