Journal ArticleDOI

Determining the migration duration of rice leaf folder (Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Guenée)) moths using a trajectory analytical approach

TL;DR: The development of female moth ovaries after three consecutive night flights appears to be a well-balanced survival strategy for this species to strike between migration and reproduction benefits and an optimum solution of migration-reproduction trade-offs in energy allocation evolved in response to the natural selection on migration route and physiological traits.
Journal ArticleDOI

Geographic variation in the effects of temperature on life-history traits in the large milkweed bug Oncopeltus fasciatus

TL;DR: The data and the recent history of the species' distribution are consistent with the hypothesis that natural selection in the cool habitat has favored improved survival and increased reproduction at cool temperatures, with some trade-offs with respect to performance at higher (but ecologically relevant) temperatures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Acarine colonisation of Antarctica and the islands of the Southern Ocean: the role of zoohoria

TL;DR: A quarter of the terrestrial Acari recorded from Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands are parasitic haematophages or non-feeding phoretics associated with other larger and more mobile animals, especially sea birds and pterygote insects.
Journal ArticleDOI

Investigations of the oogenesis-flight syndrome in Anthonomus grandis (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) using tethered flight tests

TL;DR: It is concluded that Anthonomus grandis grandis is capable of long-distance flight, that this species displays some behavioral and physiological characteristics typical of many insect migrants including an oogenesis-flight syndrome, and that a tethered flight test is an appropriate means of measuring migratory tendency in this species.
Journal ArticleDOI

Response of Eretmocerus eremicus to skylight and plant cues in a vertical flight chamber

TL;DR: The differential response to the plant cue by male and female parasitoids could be, in part, because females are driven to locate hosts in which to oviposit, and males aredriven to find mates.

Studies on the Feeding and Nutrition of Tuberolachnus Salignus (Gmelin) (Homoptera, Aphididae)

TL;DR: In this paper, the sugar and nitrogen composition of the phloem sieve-tube sap ingested by Tuberolachnus salignus (Gmelin) feeding on Salix acutifolia stems, and the honeydew excreted by the aphids was investigated.
