Age-Related Changes in Body Composition and Bone Mineral Density and Their Relationship with the Duration of Diabetes and Glycaemic Control in Type 2 Diabetes.

TLDR
In T2D, changes in body composition and bone mineral density were associated with age but not diabetes duration, and HbA1c was mainly associated with decreases in lean mass but had little effect on other BC and BMD parameters.

Association of Insulin Glargine Treatment with Bone Mineral Density in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper assessed the association of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and insulin glargine treatment with bone mineral density (BMD) in Chinese people.

Association of body composition with bone mineral density and fractures in Chinese male type 2 diabetes mellitus

Chuchen Meng, +2 more

A reference standard for the description of osteoporosis.

TL;DR: This paper proposes that the reference standard should be based on bone mineral density (BMD) measurement made at the femoral neck with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), which has been the most extensively validated, and provides a gradient of fracture risk as high as or higher than that of many other techniques.

Risk factors for longitudinal bone loss in elderly men and women: the Framingham Osteoporosis Study.

TL;DR: Current estrogen use may help to maintain bone in women, whereas current smoking was associated with bone loss in men, this population‐based study suggests.

Decreased Muscle Strength and Quality in Older Adults With Type 2 Diabetes The Health, Aging, and Body Composition Study

TL;DR: Diabetes is associated with lower skeletal muscle strength and quality and these characteristics may contribute to the development of physical disability in older adults with diabetes.

Excessive Loss of Skeletal Muscle Mass in Older Adults With Type 2 Diabetes

TL;DR: Investigating the impact of type 2 diabetes on the changes in body composition in older adults found excessive loss of appendicular lean mass and trunk fat mass compared with nondiabetic subjects, and older women with type 1 diabetes are at especially high risk for loss of skeletal muscle mass.
