Abstract
The ultimate strength analysis of reinforced concrete coupled shear walls with one or two bands of openings requires a two-stage approach. In the first stage, the analysis of the coupling beams is carried out. This is followed by the analysis of the complete wall in the second stage. A simple approach based on the ‘total moment concept’ for the analysis of coupled shear walls with one or two bands of openings is presented. Experimental results supporting the predictions of the mode of failure and ultimate strength is also presented. This study updates previous research and enhances further understanding of the behaviour of reinforced concrete shear wall structures at ultimate limit states of loading. Seismic behavior of strengthened reinforced concrete coupling beams by bolted steel plates, Part 1: Experimental study

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental study of five full-scale coupling beam specimens has been conducted to investigate the seismic behavior of strengthened RC coupling beams by bolted side steel plates using a reversed cyclic loading procedure.

Analysis of reinforced concrete shear walls with single band of octagonal openings

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed adding haunches to the corners of rectangular openings as a simple method to increase the strength of coupled shear wall structures, which act as cantilevered walls joined by coupling beams and showed that it is worth to use the octagonal openings due to very small percentage increase in the total weight of the structure compared with the amount increase in ultimate load of the shear walls.

Substructure hybrid testing of reinforced concrete shear wall structure using a domain overlapping technique

TL;DR: An online hybrid test was carried out on a 40-story 120-m high concrete shear wall structure as discussed by the authors, where the structure was divided into two substructures whereby a physical model of the bottom three stories was tested in the laboratory and the upper 37 stories were simulated numerically using ABAQUS.

Ultimate behaviour of reinforced concrete shear walls with octagonal openings

TL;DR: In this article, a simple analytical equation has been proposed to calculate the maximum displacement of reinforced concrete shear walls by considering the effective stiffness of cracked sections of shear wall components.
