Performance evaluation criteria for use of enhanced heat transfer surfaces in heat exchanger design

TL;DR: In this paper, a broad range of Performance Evaluation Criteria (PEC) applicable to single-phase flow in tubes is presented and detailed procedures are outlined to calculate the performance improvement and to select the optimal surface geometry.

Second-Law Analysis in Heat Transfer and Thermal Design

TL;DR: The presentation proceeds from the derivation of the Gouy-Stodola theorem, the basis for entropy generation minimization in the conceptual design of heat transfer equipment, to suggest the minimum irreversibility design of one-dimensional insulations such as the main counterflow heat exchanger of a helium liquefaction plant.
Journal ArticleDOI

Forced convection heat transfer in helically rib-roughened tubes

TL;DR: In this paper, a single-phase forced convection in a circular tube containing a two-dimensional rib roughness was investigated and the authors extended the state-of-the-art by examining the effect of the rib helix angle.

Heat transfer and friction in solar air heater duct with V-shaped rib roughness on absorber plate

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of geometrical parameters of V-shaped ribs on heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics of rectangular duct of solar air heater with absorber plate having V-shape ribs on its underside have been reported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Heat transfer and friction characteristics of rectangular solar air heater duct using rib-grooved artificial roughness

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental investigation on the heat transfer and friction characteristics of rib-grooved artificial roughness on one broad heated wall of a large aspect ratio duct shows that Nusselt number can be further enhanced beyond that of ribbed duct while keeping the friction factor enhancement low.

Compact heat exchangers

TL;DR: The third edition of the second edition as discussed by the authors was published in 1964 and contains basic test data for eleven new surface configurations, including some of the very compact ceramic matrices, in both the English and the Systeme International (SI) system of units.
Journal ArticleDOI

Heat transfer and friction in tubes with repeated-rib roughness

TL;DR: In this article, heat transfer and friction correlations are developed for turbulent flow in tubes having a repeated-rib roughness, based on application of a heatmomentum transfer analogy to flow over a rough surface, which was first used by Dipprey and Sabersky for sand-grain roughness.
Journal ArticleDOI

Heat and momentum transfer in smooth and rough tubes at various prandtl numbers

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental investigation of the relation between heat transfer and friction in smooth and rough tubes is presented from an experimental analysis of the relationship between heat and friction, where three rough tubes and one smooth tube were formed from electroplated nickel.
Journal ArticleDOI

Generalized heat transfer and friction correlations for tubes with repeated-rib roughness

TL;DR: In this article, a turbulent boundary layer on a porous plate is described, and the transfer of heat mass at the surface of the boundary layer is investigated. But the authors do not consider the transfer in the turbulent boundary layers.
