Journal ArticleDOI
Directed Electrophilic Cyclizations - Efficient Methodology for the Synthesis of Fused Polycyclic Aromatics
TL;DR: In this paper, a two-step synthesis of complex, fused polycyclic aromatic systems using Suzuki and Negishi type cross-coupling chemistries is described, where the critical ring-forming step uses 4-alkoxyphenylethynyl groups and is induced by strong electrophiles such as trifluoroacetic acid and iodonium tetrafluoroborate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biosynthesis, total syntheses, and antitumor activity of tanshinones and their analogs as potential therapeutic agents
TL;DR: The biosynthesis, total syntheses, and antitumor activities of tanshinones, especially neo-tanshinlactone and its analogs are discussed.

Leishmanicidal, antiplasmodial, and cytotoxic activity of novel diterpenoid 1,2-quinones from Perovskia abrotanoides: new source of tanshinones.
Majid Sairafianpour,Jette Christensen,Dan Staerk,Bogdan A. Budnik,Arsalan Kharazmi,Karim Bagherzadeh,Jerzy W. Jaroszewski +6 more
TL;DR: The findings provide a rationale for traditional use of the roots of Perovskia abrotanoides as a constituent of poultices for treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nitrogen-Containing Compounds from Salvia miltiorrhiza
TL;DR: Five new N-containing compounds, neosalvianen, salvianen (2), salvianan (3), salviadione (4), and 5-(methoxymethyl)-1H-pyrrole-2-carbaldehyde (5), were isolated from Salvia miltiorrhiza and exhibited the most potent cytotoxicity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tanshinone biosynthesis in Salvia miltiorrhiza and production in plant tissue cultures.
Jian Wen Wang,Jianyong Wu +1 more
TL;DR: Tanshinone production in cell and hairy root cultures has been dramatically enhanced with various strategies, including medium optimization, elicitor stimulation, and nutrient feeding operations, and the views on future trends are provided.
