Journal ArticleDOI
Marine Biodiversity, Biogeography, Deep-Sea Gradients, and Conservation.
TL;DR: How many marine species are named and estimated to exist is assessed, paying particular regard to whether discoveries of deep-sea organisms, microbes and parasites will change the proportion of terrestrial to marine species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ecological specialization in Trebouxia (Trebouxiophyceae) photobionts of Ramalina menziesii (Ramalinaceae) across six range‐covering ecoregions of western North America
TL;DR: Geography, climate, and ecological specialization shape genetic differentiation of lichen photobiont strains of Ramalina menziesii.
Journal ArticleDOI
Local representation of global diversity in a cosmopolitan lichen-forming fungal species complex (Rhizoplaca, Ascomycota)
Steven D. Leavitt,Steven D. Leavitt,Fernando Fernández-Mendoza,Sergio Pérez-Ortega,Mohammad Sohrabi,Pradeep K. Divakar,Jan Vondrák,H. Thorsten Lumbsch,Larry L. St. Clair +8 more
TL;DR: Diversity and distributions in a cosmopolitan lichen‐forming fungal species complex, Rhizoplaca melanophthalma sensu lato (Ascomycota), across a broad, intercontinental geographical distribution is examined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Environmental DNA assessment of airborne plant and fungal seasonal diversity.
Elisa Banchi,Elisa Banchi,Claudio G. Ametrano,Enrico Tordoni,David Stanković,Silvia Ongaro,Mauro Tretiach,Alberto Pallavicini,Alberto Pallavicini,Lucia Muggia,Pierluigi Verardo,Francesca Tassan,Nadia Trobiani,Olga Moretti,Maria Francesca Borney,Stefania Lazzarin +15 more
TL;DR: A nine-month aerobiological study applying eDNA metabarcoding in which simultaneously airborne diversity and variation of fungi and plants across five locations in North and Central Italy, showed that the plant diversity from air samples is significantly correlated with seasons, while that of fungi varied according to the interaction between seasons and sites.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phylogeography of Ramalina menziesii, a widely distributed lichen‐forming fungus in western North America
TL;DR: Ramalina menziesii, an epiphytic lichenized fungus with a range encompassing major ecosystems from Baja California to Alaska, is studied to explore the predictions of two hypotheses: that the widespread distribution of R. menZiesii is due to a single migration episode from a single lineage or the formation and persistence of multiple lineages structured throughout the species' range.

Journal ArticleDOI
Post-glacial re-colonization of European biota
TL;DR: Diversity from southern to northern Europe in the extent of allelic variation and species subdivision is seen; this is attributed to rapid expansion northward and the varied topography of southern refugia allowing populations to diverge through several ice ages.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic Consequences of Range Expansions
TL;DR: Interestingly, most of these patterns had been previously attributed to distinct selective processes, showing that taking into account the dynamic nature of a species range can lead to a paradigm shift in the authors' perception of evolutionary processes.
Dictionary of the Fungi
TL;DR: For each genus, the authority, the date of publication, status, systematic position, number of accepted species, distribution, and key references are given.
Journal ArticleDOI
Wind as a Long-Distance Dispersal Vehicle in the Southern Hemisphere
TL;DR: A stronger correlation of floristic similarities with wind connectivity than with geographic proximities supports the idea that wind is a dispersal vehicle for many organisms in the Southern Hemisphere.
