Abstract
This report presents code-ready language containing general design guidance and a simplified design procedure for blast-resistant reinforced concrete bridge columns. The report also provides the results of experimental blast tests and analytical research on reinforced concrete bridge columns designed to investigate the effectiveness of a variety of different design techniques. The material in this report will be of immediate interest to bridge designers.

Experimental investigation of ultra-high performance concrete slabs under contact explosions

TL;DR: In this paper, contact explosion tests were carried out on concrete slabs to observe the concrete crater and spall damage, and all fragments resulting from the contact blast tests were collected and analyzed through sieve analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Blast loads induced responses of RC structural members: State-of-the-art review

TL;DR: In this paper, a comprehensive review on existing analytical, numerical, and experimental studies in the literature investigating the loading mechanisms, dynamic responses and failure behaviors of various concrete structures subjected to blast loads is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of transverse reinforcement spacing on the response of reinforced concrete columns subjected to blast loading

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of transverse reinforcement spacing on the blast resistance of reinforced concrete columns were investigated using a high-fidelity physics-based finite element code, LS-DYNA.

Blast loading on structures

TL;DR: In this article, the authors described the process of determining the blast load on structures and provided a numerical example of a fictive structure exposed to this load and analyzed its blast load as a pressure-time history.
Journal ArticleDOI

Performance of bridge columns subjected to blast loads. I: Experimental program

TL;DR: In this paper, the National Cooperative Highway Research Program sponsored a research project to investigate the response of critical bridge components subjected to blast loads, which included a description of an experimental research program on ten different half-scale column designs in which the design parameters that have the greatest impact on the performance of blastloaded bridge columns were evaluated.
