TLDR
The content of Mauseth's Botany is thorough and presents an accurate overview of modern understanding about and perspectives on plants; however, this thorough coverage of individual topics is one of the drawbacks of the book.

A review on the biomass pretreatment and inhibitor removal methods as key-steps towards efficient macroalgae-based biohydrogen production.

TL;DR: The variety of marine algal biomass available in the coastal system is overviews, followed by the analyses of their pretreatment methods, inhibitor formation and possible detoxification, which are key-aspects to achieve subsequent H2 fermentation in a proper way.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pre-procambial cells are niches for pluripotent and totipotent stem-like cells for organogenesis and somatic embryogenesis in the peach palm: a histological study

TL;DR: An in vitro histological analysis in peach palm indicates that the use of growth regulators in microplants can lead to habituation and to different morphogenic pathways leading to potential niche establishment, depending on the positioning of the competent cells and their interaction with neighboring cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Review of the use of Non-Pollen Palynomorphs in Palaeoecology with Examples from Australia

TL;DR: The study of the NPP from two Late Quaternary lake records from western Victoria, Australia provided additional information on water quality, salinity, depth, temperature and nutrient levels to the general environmental interpretation derived from pollen data.
Book ChapterDOI

Evolution of serotonin: sunlight to suicide

TL;DR: This chapter examines the evolution of serotonin and its biosynthetic pathways from tryptophan, and the effects of sunlight on serotonin levels and on mood, sleep and suicide ideation in humans.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Evolution of Ovule Number and Flower Size in Wind-Pollinated Plants

TL;DR: A phenotypic model for the evolution of ovule number per flower is developed that incorporates the aerodynamics of pollen capture and a fixed resource pool for provisioning of flowers, ovules, and seeds and demonstrates that when flowers are small and inexpensive, as they are in wind-pollinated species, Ovule number should be minimized and lower than the average number of pollen tubes per style, even under stochastic pollination and fertilization regimes.
