TLDR
Data is reviewed on the effects on plasma renin activity of maneuvers that reduce and increase central venous pressure and cardiac diameter without affecting blood pressure and heart rate, thereby deactivating and stimulating cardiopulmonary receptors with little or no involvement of the arterial baroreceptors.

Changes in BP Induced by Passive Leg Raising Predict Response to Fluid Loading in Critically Ill Patients

TL;DR: The response to RFL could be predicted noninvasively by a simple observation of changes in pulse pressure during PLR in patients with acute circulatory failure who were receiving mechanical ventilation.

Cardiopulmonary reflex before and after regression of left ventricular hypertrophy in essential hypertension.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that cardiopulmonary receptor regulation of peripheral vascular resistance and of neurohumoral variables is impaired in essential hypertension and that the impairment is much more pronounced when this condition is associated with cardiac structural alterations.

Angiotensin-sympathetic system interactions in cardiovascular and metabolic disease.

TL;DR: In conclusion, therapeutic interventions aimed at blocking the renin–angiotensin system exert favourable effects on the haemodynamic, metabolic and renal profile, which has important implications for the treatment of hypertension, congestive heart failure, renal insufficiency and metabolic syndrome.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cardiovascular reflexes and hypertension.

TL;DR: Arterial baroreceptor reflex control of blood pressure, studied by the neck chamber technique, has been found to be reset to more effectively buffer increases in blood pressure than blood pressure falls, but without any loss of overall reflex sensitivity.

Vasoconstriction-Volume Analysis for Understanding and Treating Hypertension: The Use of Renin and Aldosterone Profiles

TL;DR: This bipolar analysis assumes that chronic hypertension is maintained by (1) arterial overfilling (volume hypertension), (2) arteriolar constriction without increased volume (vasoconstrictor hypertension) or (3) an inappropriate interaction of the two.

Circulatory reflexes from carotid and extracarotid baroreceptor areas in man.

TL;DR: The carotid sinus baroreceptor reflex of the normotensive man is an effective antihypotensive and antihypertensive feedback system, though the former function may have more sensitivity.

Inhibition of adrenergic outflow to peripheral blood vessels by vagal afferents from the cardiopulmonary region in the dog.

TL;DR: In this article, the aortic nerve was cut beneath the nodose ganglion, and the carotid sinuses were either denervated or vascularly isolated and maintained at a pressure of 40 mm Hg.
Journal ArticleDOI

Continuous inhibition of renin release in dogs by vagally innervated receptors in the cardiopulmonary region.

TL;DR: Vagal afferents from the cardiopulmonary region exert a tonic restraint on the release of renin; this restraint occurs in circumstances in which these Afferents cause little change in total renal blood flow.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reflex suppression of renin secretion during distention of cardiopulmonary receptors in dogs.

TL;DR: It is concluded that left atrial distention reflexly reduces the rates of renin secretion via vagal afferent and renal sympathetic efferent pathways.
