Čerenkov radiation within the Earth's upper atmosphere

TLDR
A brief review of Cerenkov radiation within the upper atmospheric plasma has been presented in this article, where the results of analysis about the nature and characteristics of VLF hisses in terms of incoherent Cererkov radiation are given in a concise manner.
Abstract
A brief review of Cerenkov radiation within the upper atmospheric plasma has been presented. Different attempts in this context are systematically discussed. The results of analysis about the nature and characteristics of VLF hisses in terms of incoherent Cerenkov radiation are given in a concise manner. The occurrence of resonance cone has also been reported.

RADIATION FROM A UNIFORMLY MOVING CHARGE IN AN ANISOTROPIC PLASMA. Technical Report No. 389

H.S. Tuan, +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the radiation from a point charge moving uniformly in a plasma, when the charge is moving in the direction of an external magnetic field, and obtained two sets of values of these parameters, the frequency and the angular spectrum of the emitted radiation.

Theory of Čerenkov and cyclotron radiations in plasmas

TL;DR: In this paper, the radiation power from a charge q moving in a helix in magnetoplasmas is investigated theoretically, and it is shown that for a positron in a dilute plasma, however, the radiation is strengthened.

The "Infinity Catastrophe" Associated With Radiation in Magnetoionic Media

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reexamine the fundamenJal formulas for radiation in magnetoplasmas and conclude that the formulas used by earlier authors are valid and that the "infinity catastrophe" arises not from the method of calculation but rather from a physical inconsistency in the Appleton-Hartree dielectric tensor.

Radiation From a Uniformly Moving Charge in an Anisotropic Plasma

TL;DR: In this paper, the radiation from a point charge moving uniformly in a plasma is investigated when the charge is moving in the direction of an external magnetic field. And the two parameters of interest in this problem are the ratio u/c/sub 0/ of the velocity of the charges to the free-space velocity of electromagnetic waves and the ratio R of the gyromagnetic frequency to the plasma frequency of the electrons.

Incoherent Cerenkov process as a source of low-latitude VLF emissions

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a realistic ionospheric model and a suitable energetic electron spectra to confirm the generation mechanism of low-latitude VLF emissions observed both in the satellites and on the ground.
