Changes in antimicrobial resistance and demographics of UTIs in pediatric patients in a single institution over a 6-year period.

TLDR
UTI in females was nearly twice as common than in males, and ampicillin was a poor empiric choice for pediatric UTIs, while cephalosporins were appropriate alternatives given their low resistance rates.

Graphene/nickel oxide nanocomposites against isolated ESBL producing bacteria and A549 cancer cells

TL;DR: The synthesis of nickel oxide nanoparticles (NiO NPs) and graphene/nickel oxide nanocomposites (Gr/NiO NCs) was performed using a simple chemical reduction method and the NCs were found to reduce cell viability, increase the level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and modify both the mitochondrial membrane permeability and cell cycle arrest.

Retrospective 8-Year Study on the Antibiotic Resistance of Uropathogens in Children Hospitalised for Urinary Tract Infection in the Emilia-Romagna Region, Italy

TL;DR: In this paper, the development and spread of antibiotic resistance is an increasingly important global public health problem, even in paediatric urinary tract infection (UTI), and it is necessary to conduct surveillance studies to determine the prevalence of antibiotic resistant in specific geographical areas to optimize therapeutic management.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antibiotic Resistance in Paediatric Febrile Urinary Tract Infections

TL;DR: In this paper , the problem of emerging antibiotic resistance among pathogens associated with the development of paediatric febrile UTIs and the best potential solutions to ensure the most effective therapy are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Resistance to antibacterial therapy in pediatric febrile urinary tract infections-a single-center analysis

TL;DR: The findings suggest a satisfactory response to first-line therapy with aminopenicillin/BLI combinations in children with acute pyelonephritis in a German university tertiary care center.

Urinary tract infection: clinical practice guideline for the diagnosis and management of the initial UTI in febrile infants and children 2 to 24 months.

Kenneth B. Roberts
- 01 Sep 2011 -
TL;DR: Data from the most recent 6 studies do not support the use of antimicrobial prophylaxis to prevent febrile recurrent UTI in infants without vesicoureteral reflux or with grade I to IV VUR, and a voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) is not recommended routinely after the first UTI.

Bacterial susceptibility to oral antibiotics in community acquired urinary tract infection

TL;DR: This study shows a slight but generalised decrease in bacterial susceptibility to common oral antibiotics in the past decade in the population of children with community acquired UTI.

Increasing antibiotic resistance among urinary tract isolates

TL;DR: A five year retrospective study performed to identify organisms isolated from the urinary tract of children in the community and children with underlying renal problems and their antimicrobial susceptibilities found that up to a third of E coli isolates from children inThe community and almost two thirds of E bacteria isolate from children with beneath renal disease may be resistant to trimethoprim.
