TLDR
In this paper, the influence of food resources on the use of feeding areas was discussed and the authors proposed a method to measure the energy intake and requirements of shorebirds in the field.

Implications of waterbird ecology for the dispersal of aquatic organisms

TL;DR: It is confirmed that Anatidae, shorebirds and other waterbirds have great potential as dispersers of aquatic organisms, but illustrates how closely related, sympatric bird species can have very different roles in dispersal of specific aquatic organisms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nonrandom Shorebird Distribution and Fine-Scale Variation in Prey Abundance

TL;DR: Variation in shorebird distribution and abundance within microhabitats of the Mad River estuary, California, with the following null hypotheses was examined: shorebird spatial distribution was random, and no relationship existed between bird abundance and invertebrate densities.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ecology of spring-migrating Anatidae: a review

TL;DR: It is shown that little is known about Anatidae ecology in spring, although some goose species are exceptions, and another general pattern is that the ecology of Anatidae at staging sites is particularly neglected.

Changes in commercially fished shellfish stocks and shorebird populations in the Wash, England

TL;DR: The key to preventing major oystercatcher kills in future is to ensure sufficient mussels are available in poor cockle years, as recent cultivation of mussels in inter-tidal areas has been beneficial and is an important management tool for maintaining bird populations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental evidence for effects of human disturbance on foraging and parental care in oystercatchers

TL;DR: Both experiments demonstrate that human disturbance of foraging in breeding oystercatchers reduced the amount of parental care, and thus presumably reproductive success.
