TLDR
It is shown that two modes counterpropagating in a single-mode fiber in the presence of random coupling due to refractive-index fluctuations can interfere constructively and give rise to a coherent backscattering process analogous to that associated with back scattering from a disordered medium.
Abstract
We show that two modes counterpropagating in a single-mode fiber in the presence of random coupling due to refractive-index fluctuations can interfere constructively and give rise to a coherent backscattering process analogous to that associated with backscattering from a disordered medium. Both strong- and weak-localization limits are studied and the interplay between localization and radiation losses is analyzed.

Fabrication, characterization, and theoretical analysis of controlled disorder in the core of optical fibers.

TL;DR: The reported technique provides an easy way to fabricate different configurations of controlled disorder in optical fibers suitable for such applications as random fiber lasers.

Coherent Backscattering in Multimode Optical Fibers

TL;DR: In this paper, two counter-propagating beams that travel through multimode fibers with strong mode coupling were investigated and the interferences between waves going through time-reversed paths can enhance, and surprisingly sometimes suppress, coherent backscattering to the input mode.

Study of artificially disordered optical fibers

TL;DR: In this article, experimental and theoretical studies of polarization resolved light transmission through optical fiber with disorder generated in its germanium-doped core via UV radiation transmitted through a diffuser are presented.
